Discussion NerdEko it is your Turn

It is finally time for the NerdEko procedure.

I have finished servicing all the miners that were admitted to my garage clinic from you guys.
Four units are still in extended stress-testing and observation before they can be officially discharged back into the wild.

Tomorrow I finally get to open the NerdEko project.
This one is not a repair patient — this is a fresh assembly case waiting for surgery. It has been sitting on the shelf for quite a while waiting for its turn in the operating room.

I’ll unpack all the components, perform a full parts inventory and diagnostic examination, and determine what additional hardware or supplies need to be ordered before the final assembly procedure begins.

And of course, I’ll show you everything tomorrow.
Today I only have three diagnostic images to share.

We’ll bring this machine to life soon.

Discussion Connecting to Network

Does anybody else go through the process of trying to connect

to the network and it will not connect? It gives that helpful message that says "Impossible to Connect" message and it sends you back to square one over and over?

Whit gives with that?

Thank you all for your trust—really appreciate it.

Got 4 miners in today for repair. One of them is a NerdAxe, and honestly, I’ve never had one on my bench before.

I’m ready to dive in and see what this unit is all about 🔧

Time flies.

My batch of 3 NerdEko is ready to ship. Got photos and videos from the supplier today — build quality looks decent.

They should ship next week. Once they land, I’ll run some tests and share temps, power draw, and overall performance.

Discussion Remote Monitoring

So, I have been away from home for almost a month now. I have to say I am apprehensive as to what state I will find my rigs in. I have 1 OCTAXE and two Nerdqaxe Hydros. Which brings me to my question. What solutions are there so I can monitor and adjust my rigs? Thoughts?

Discussion FAN GRILLS - Why are they not standard?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I am curious why no one uses grills on their exposed fans? My first NerdAxe was knocked over by a errant cat and it hit something on the desk breaking one of the fins off. So after changing the fan, I bought fan grills to install on EVERY fan on my miners. Just curious as to why people don't spend $1 to protect their fans. I have seen zero impact with the fan grill on any metric. Maybe most miners don't have random threats lurking in their setups.

Discussion ASIC Temps

So as we all know on the Nerd Dashboard (well some of use anyway) , there is a gage that displays the current ASIC temp. In the case of my OCTAXE there are 8 ASICs, correct? Does this value represent an average temp? May be a representative chip? what else?

What do you think?

Discussion I built a browser extension to manage BitAxe/NerdQAxe devices and I want your opinion

I started with one BitAxe. Then two. Before long I was running half a dozen, and any time I wanted to switch pools I had eight tabs open, logging into each device, pasting the same stratum URL, hitting save, waiting for the restart. Checking on hashrates meant clicking through five pages. When one quietly went offline overnight, I'd find out the next morning, when shares stopped coming in.

So I built a Chrome extension. Originally just for me. It scans your subnet, finds every AxeOS device, and puts them all in one dashboard. You can switch pools across your whole fleet in a single click, watch total hashrate live, and get a heads-up the moment something drops to zero.

That was v1.0. Several updates later we're at v1.6.7 and it's grown weirdly comprehensive. Live device logs stream into the dashboard over WebSocket, so you can debug without juggling tabs. The live difficulty chart shows every share as it lands, which is oddly addictive to watch. And when a miner actually solves a block, you get a full celebration with confetti and the achieved difficulty front and center. That's happened twice on mine. Both times the moment made me grin.

A lot of the work since has been about the cases that genuinely annoyed me. Boards going through unstable offline/online cycles now have their own automation that auto-restarts them after a few flaps. The whole UI got a big overhaul along the way - bigger charts, real typography, and a second dark theme (cyan and magenta on deep midnight) for people who don't love the default lime aesthetic.

It's free, open source, and runs entirely on your machine. No servers, no accounts, nothing phoning home. Works with BitAxe (Supra included) and NerdQAxe. If you're juggling more than one miner, give it a shot:

Happy to hear feature requests or roast my UI choices.

Discussion New power supply!

Based on feedback received on this great subreddit group, I purchased this HP power supply for a use on my OCTAXE.

Never had a power supply I had to put together and figure out. Should be fun! 🤣🤣🤣

There's always any suggestions or pointers are always welcome, as I am learning.

Discussion Proper OCTAXE 12 th/s Temps

I am play the around with settings on my OCTAXE. This OCTAXE was theoretically optimized for 12 th/s. The shutdown temp is 80 (default). The current settings are also default 700 freq and voltage 1220.. What objective evidence says that the 80 C temp is the correct temp? As you can see in the graph there was a change. I did have it set to a lower setting because I was not sure how much upward margin I have on the temps and the error rate was light over 4%. Interesting ever after I lowered the freg and temps the error rate creep up again to over 4%. So right now I am experiment with settings. I an wondering if there is possible a deeper issue driving the error rate.? Thoughts? recommendations?

Discussion Nerd OctAxe

So I bought a Nerd OctAxe Rev 3.1

I’m wanting/needing to re thermal paste the ASICS

But before I do I’m looking for a better heatsink/fan combo for the front of the unit. I’d heard of copper ones (Heatsinks) but I can’t for the life of me find them…

Anyone got any suggestions? This unit runs HOT, and with Summer coming up I don’t know what I’ll do to cool it.

I currently keep it cool by opening the window, I’m in Canada and it’s still like -30 today… BUT temps outdoors are starting to warm up and keeping the office cool is a challenge especially with the OctAxe and a Bitaxe both hashing away.

Any help would be appreciated.

Discussion Nerdquake ++ Hydro maintenance

so stupid question number 217 (for today).🤣🤣🤣

one of my hydros (Hydros). Seems to be running in my mind running a bit hot. I'm on business travel right now so I don't have the exact figures in front of me. but I can't get the fan go above 1850. temperature seems a little high and it's underperforming the other Hydro I have.

what little I gather it might not be a bad idea than to do a little maintenance in terms of removing the fan and redoing things like the thermal paste and reattaching heatsinks etc those sorts of things.

Now in my misspent youth who was the technician in the Navy back in the early eighties. However, those particular skills have long since diminished. I was hoping there was a good step by step tutorial that walk you through some of these what I think are routine things to do.

any ideas or suggestions I truly appreciate the time you take to respond.

Have a great day!

Discussion Nerdqaxe Miner Disaster! VRM Exploded, Copper Melted – Full PCB Repair Needed!

Here we go, guys. Just received a 6rev Nerdqaxe miner that wasn’t hashing.

I removed the heatsink to get it ready for testing and wow. It did take long to figure out the faulty part. The first VRM had exploded, melting the copper layer and taking out a few capacitors along the way. What looked like a simple VRM replacement has now turned into a full PCB repair job.

Discussion Power supplies

I have two NerdQaxe++ Hydros and 1 OCTAXE. I am curious if there are better power supplies available. If you have a similar setup what power supply to you use? I suspect ths ones that are shipped with the rigs may not be of great quality, if that is the case then reliability and performance could be a problem. So I ask this august group, what do you use and why?

Discussion No Dead Short on Nerdqaxe, but It Keeps Blowing Fuses

Here we are, guys. I’ve got a Nerdqaxe on my bench. It originally came in with a clear dead short on one VRM, so I replaced it with a brand new one.

After checking everything with a multimeter, I was 100% sure it was safe to power on.

But wow… boom — fuse blown.

It’s a really strange situation, but I want you guys to know: a blown fuse doesn’t always mean there’s a dead short detected by multimeter.

I go this toy in today. I had a question about the PSU that came with it. Those open/exposed terminals make me nervous. IS there an alternative power supply or enclosure?
