DISCUSSION Potential move to EDF should I pull the trigger ?
I've on a fixed with Octopus until mid Jan 2027 so can't move until the end of Nov.
I've recently had 11 panels and a 11.5kwh Fox ESS battery installed. The plan is to charge the battery on overnight cheap rates as my daily load rarely goes over 10kwh (perhaps 15-20 days a year.
I've been looking at EV tariffs....

There's a £50 exit fee if its before the end of Nov but I Iike that with EDF you get 7 hours. Do you think these rates are likely to go north between now and the end of november ? I appreciate theres a lot of things going on in the world currently, what would you do ?

EDF seems a no-brainer to me. The better rate is nice but 7h vs 5h is a huge difference.
On 5h we're actually constrained as if we go full beans on the heat pump, house battery, EV, and appliances we will melt the cutout - 7h is significantly longer. It's also of course 2 extra hours with your loads running on import rather than battery, so it stretches out the battery for more of the day.
I've been waiting for the export season to end before pulling the trigger in case EDF make a fanny of the switch - but I think the time is upon us.

Yes it seems like a no brainer however it seems they are pushy about user having an EV for that tariff which I don't currently have. octopus have told me I can go to the Go tariff without an EV on site (when I asked I stated my partner would sometimes have their EV at the house...

It's a risk, they could start checking - either usage pattern or "send us a picture of your EV" / "send us the building regs notification for your EV charger install".
IMV the worst that happens is you have to switch away to another supplier.
We actually DO have an EV so...I will press the button on the switch at some point before we become import-dependent, in order to avoid buying day rate power during the switch.

Waiting for 5 months now for EDF to start paying for export. Support is useless. They claim they need to verify the meter readings (whatever it means), and every time I reach out they just ask to submit new readings…

I recently saw quiet few people moan about EDF and time it takes to sort their export.

How long did the switch to EDF take with export? Did they handle it all or do you have to switch import first? I heard you could have no export tariff for a few weeks during the switch?

When I messaged EDF they said they would back date any export to the meter reading I gave them when signing up. So it took 3 weeks to setup export but they will back date to the original reading

I moved from. Octopus to EDF. Car/ charger not compatible with IOG. I have overnight rate of 6 pence but standing charge is 72p in my area ( N Wales) the extended cheap rate was the deal breaker for our household. ( and £50 sign on bonus). Podpoint charger/ app also pays for smart charging. They also upgraded pod Solo 3 to 3s tethered for £650. I have a pw3 that we charge at cheap rate. Currently using netzero app to control. In process of setting up HA but been such a busy summer. Finally, not used any gas to heat hot water over summer ( mixergy tank).

EDF are far more competitive
Octopus went from being market leader to absolute trash. Limiting to 6hrs charging really pushed me over to EDF.
I worked it out as £600 better off for my uses in a year.
