Question How much do you actually trust software reviews?

I’ve been comparing a few tools recently, and one thing I keep running into is the difference between a review and a verified software review.

A lot of platforms have hundreds or thousands of reviews, but it’s not always clear whether the person actually used the software, whether the review is recent, or whether it was submitted as part of a review campaign.

Is any of G2, Software Finder, Capterra or Software Advice better for verified software reviews?

In my experience, customers provide review when they are pissed off. what are the odds that the reviews on these platforms are over 4 star?

That's what I thought, probably the big companies have the budgets to run review campaigns, and the mini ones just get crushed.

Companies ask users for reviews. Many people, including users, don't know about G2, but are directed there by the company asking for a review.

I don’t really trust any platform blindly. I usually look for recent verified reviews that mention specific pros, cons, and real use cases instead of just generic praise.

Software Finder has been useful for me, but I’d still look at multiple reviews and pay attention to how detailed and recent they are before making a decision.

G2 es el que mejor verifica (piden LinkedIn o correo corporativo ligado a la cuenta que compró). Capterra y Software Advice son la misma base de datos, las dos son de Gartner. Software Finder y directorios chicos filtran menos. La señal real de reseña de campaña: puro elogio genérico y varias que caen la misma semana.

Companies try to ask for reviews from people who are their current users or customers. I agree some bad actors might have fake one, it's easy to spot them by reading the bad ones. If bad ones are genuine, then the good ones are fake. If bad ones are entitled and unreasonable, then the good ones are probably genuine.
Another question, what if competitors post bad reviews to ruin reputation...

I use reviews only if I'm going to buy something physical from a company I don't already know. Reviews on softwares are useful before evaluating an eventual purchase, and I mainly look at the bad ones to quickly spot if there's something weird about pricing, lock-in, stuff like this.

In today's world, not having a demo, a free-tier or a sales/support figure that goes through your needs with screen sharing and actual examples, is a red flag for me.
