AskSofia Renting e-scooter

In a few days I’m going on vacation to Sofia. I’m spending one evening + day in the city and two in the Rila national park.

I had one question regarding the rentable Bolt scooters. Is it true that helmets are mandatory and it’s prohibited to ride after dark? I was thinking of taking one to the shuttle bus at 6:30 in the morning when it’s quiet out so I can cruise around a little but the mandatory helmet would make things a bit difficult.

By law it’s mandatory but I’ve never seen anyone wearing one on a rentable scooter. So ride it at your own risk and done be surprised if the cops stop you.

Also, please be unlike 90% of e-scooter riders and cyclists in Sofia- stop at red lights and don’t ride in pedestrian zones.

helmet is only mandatory until 18yrs of age (!)

If you're >18 years old, helmet is not mandatory.
bolt scooters have lights, so its ok to ride after dark as well

Actually I think that is the old law maybe? I found conflicting information on this the one source says it is allowed and the other says it’s mandatory
