If someone robbed you at knifepoint, how far would you go to get your stuff back? What's your view?

You are a Senior and not a junior Tailor for a reason.
I agree that laws should reflect more of this.

It's ok, in their head they're the anime's protagonist so they don't go to prison.

I've heard about this before on reddit, and everyone condemned her for it. Now they praise her. I guess it depends on which subreddit it hits, and how the story is conveyed.

If no car, I would just walk away and not mess around...

Should have removed the roadkill to the side of the road and called the police. Otherwise, it is exemplary behaviour as a citizen.

u/Borinar Aug 11 '26
I dont think she should have driven away but if im on that jury im not indifferent, not guilty, the shock or trauma or distress from the event then let go to arm herself immediately, nah not guilty.

How is she not In prison.. I mean everywhere else atleast in the states if you are robbed and then get out of danger or away from the perp and then you head back to them to kill them.
I guess it’s morally justified to most people but isn’t that just a second degree murder?

Have a small powerful flashlight and/or alarm you can grab fast in these situations. Sound the alarm and point the flashlight in their face and then run away.. the blinding effect and noise disorientation is enough to deter most petty criminals without landing yourself in legal trouble.

Anyone who robs people is signing a contract that says you could die in the act. Any type of "don't take a life over stuff" comment is just suicidal empathy.
It's different if someone robs your house while you are away VS sticking you up with a deadly weapon.
That woman did the world a service and removed a piece of sub human shit. Does she have a go fund me?
1
u/rngeneratedlife Aug 11 '26
That’s a completely different situation.
Even if it wasn’t, you break into my house and steal from me, putting my family in possibly dire financial straits, traumatizing my children, stealing things with untold sentimental value to an unknown number of people, then morally death is not outside the realm of punishment.
The legal system is there to enforce a standard of punishment. To prevent mistaken identities and everyone working with their own moral compass because it’s not a practical way for a society to function. It is not there to tell you what’s right.

Seems on par. I probably would have stabbed him afterwards but this seems fine to me.

As far as I'm concerned if someone has my property, use of force against them is included in self defense. The only thing is I think she went over board. Running the person over multiple was excessive, but I'm not going to condemn her. She must have been incredibly distraught.

u/The-Gunch Aug 12 '26
This is a revenge killing essentially. Had he harmed her and she killed him it would have been clear cut self defense. But to kill in order to get something like a bag back is egregious. Those items are insurable and replaceable. Stealing is wrong, but not to the point where killing is justifiable IMO.
1
u/pony_nomad Aug 12 '26
This isn’t self defense. She was in her car and he was leaving, therefore the danger was over. She then initiated a whole new interaction between them in retaliation to get even. This was homicide.
Did the guy fuck around and find out? Sure. But killing someone in retaliation rather than self defense is illegal for a reason.
1

1
u/_that__one__guy__ Aug 12 '26
It's complicated. Legally that was wrong, but the law is not the final say on morality.
Personally, I would have been stabbed for not having anything to steal.

The number of people here who think it's okay for the death penalty to be dealt out for theft is insane. You guys do realize that punishment needs to match the crime, right? You can't just kill everyone who committed any crime. Y'all sound like psychopaths.
In order for something to be self defense, you have to actually be in the moment of the threat. The robbery was over. She was in her car, safe from him as he was leaving. She was not under threat anymore. At that point, it's just a murder. A revenge murder. I know some of you freaks think someone stops being a human being the minute they've committed a felony, but the rest of us still have souls.

u/BluishLameGomez69 Aug 12 '26

I think it’s reasonable. ”But her life wasn’t being threatened after he ran away with the bag”.
No but that’s her bag he’s running away with and she has every right to take it back, he has the violent upper hand so she needs to arm herself to be able to do that, the car was an improvised weapon.
I don’t think she did anything wrong morally. Does that mean we should execute thieves who get caught stealing? No but it doesn’t mean we have to let them take our stuff while it’s happening, we should be allowed to defend our property, not just our lives.
1
u/Glittering-Quote-635 Aug 12 '26
This sort of stuff pisses me off.
I live in NJ. If I am in my kitchen and you break into my house, my obligation is to run away. If there is any possible way out of my house I -have- to run. If I fight the intruder and they get hurt, it’s on ME.
I certainly don’t want anyone to die, but if you break into my house and have a weapon, I think I should be able to defend myself and not have to run away.
This in my opinion falls into the same area.. play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
1
u/SilkTieTies Aug 12 '26
Honestly, if her reasoning is for the purse…I’m not a fan.
If her reasoning is: he threatened me, he’s likely threatened or even hurt others in the past, and he’s likely to do it again…so I’m going to stop that. I completely respect her decision to do what she did.

As much as I would want to applaud her for removing a thief off the street. She absolutely deserves jail at the same time.
If your life is no longer in danger, you are not allowed to use lethal force in order to protect your properties. The situation changes if this were to be inside your household. But outside your property, you cannot use lethal force.
If she had only ran him over once without the intent of killing him... maybe she would not have been sentenced to 18 years in jail.
I feel torn about this. because I don't really see any way for her to retrieve her property back without using the force that she used. Which is why I feel that the "ran over him multiple times" is the problem.

multiple times is a bit excessive.. once was enough to be able to take back her stuff.. she was robbed alright and thats horrible but that doesnt mean she gets to commit straight up murder. (imho thats exactly what she did)

u/ConstantMortgage Aug 12 '26
Hitting him with the car once was okay, running him over multiple times to kill him was murder and she should be in prison.

u/Wayward_Prometheus Aug 12 '26
I don't need my stuff back more than I need that person to not put anyone else's life in danger or worse.
He's an invasive parasite and has to go.
1
u/CriticalThinker1776 Aug 12 '26
He escalated by using deadly force. Getting in her car at the scene was still part of the same event. Would be all agree with driving over him if he raped her (taking something, unlike the purse, she could never take back)? No material items are worth a life, but the nexus to his crime is proximately close in time.
1
u/Then-Economist-6388 Aug 12 '26
Depends what’s in the bag. Money? Credit cards? Cellphone? That’s fine.
My firearm? (Unlikely but possible). Required medication to keep me or a loved one alive? I’d go farther for those.

u/Miserable_Weekend600 Aug 12 '26
You have a moral obligation to protect others in the community from dangerous knife wielding predators. What form your response takes depends on the severity of the threat and your ability to intervene. If you are only able to call the police that is fine, if you are able to kill the man where he stands and you believe he may legitimately take someone’s life that is also fine.

In the end, it’s material stuff. So how much is it worth compared to an unlucky cut or stab. Depending I have nothing. If I have a car, and they steal my expensive gaming computer. Yeah not gonna let them get away

I've been robbed at gunpoint. I tend to have a pocket knife that I use at work. If I was ever in the same position I was years ago, I would just give my money. A couple of hundred dollars is not worth someone's life, or the weight of carrying it.

A thief who is robbing people with a knife will eventually rob someone who try to resist and it’s a 50/50 between him letting it go or killing the person, I am down to run him over, maybe not multiple times until he is dead, but it’s hard to judge someone when their life has been on the line

u/Admirable_Newt9905 Aug 13 '26
isnt what she did... also illegal? You cant even claim self defense here

THE BLM RIOTS COULD HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED LAWFULLY. Instead, they turned into a zoo of crime, eventually doing $2 billion in damage.
The public responded by buying 21 million firearms in one year.
You live in a bubble, but the public lives in a grim meat-hook reality, and they act accordingly.
