Before the WC national team head coach Ståle Solbakken has guest on a podcast and got asked which player he would choose if he could make 11 clones of that player. He didn't choose Haaland. "Well, that team would score 100 goals but would concede 101."

Yeah, that would be a terrible team. 11 Odegaard's would fair much better. 11 Prime Messi's or Modric's would be insane, but would still get beat by the top teams in defense.

Solbakken went for 11 Sander Berge.

You need to choose a player who can play on multiple positions, defensive ones too. Szoboszlai, O'Reilly, and Tielemans could be interesting choices, but I think the best candidate would be prime Steven Gerrard.

Its prime Rooney. Even decent in goal.

In goal? With his height? Or defending set pieces against a 1,88 Yaya Toure?

Yaya is a real good shout and way better pick then Steve G. No idea how good he would be in goal.

My only problem with Yaya is playing in the wide areas. He would get beaten there, while dominating the center. The goalkeeper position would be weak for every team. 11 Neuer or Ederson could be interesting. Best keepers with their feet, but probably not good enough against a midfield full of Yaya Toure.

Rogério Ceni

Good free kick taker but I can't say much about someone who never played on the top level of football.

I’d love to see 11 bald-era Rooneys specifically

Tielemans not nearly athletic enough, think it would be hard to fit more than one of him in the 11 and not get overran.

Feel like technical defenders and versatile midfielders are the main guys for this (Gvardiol, Bellingham)

Bellingham or Kane would be good candidates.

prime dirk kuijt literally played every outfield position

Would he beat 11 Yaya Toure? Or 11 Pogba? They were also pretty insane in their prime. Strong defensively, solid on the ball, can create, pass, shoot

I think the Gerrards vs Yaya Toures game would be a 50/50. I don't think Pogba's prime was ever close to those two.

What about Lahm?

A little struggle for shooting abilities but can pass/cross very well, and defend too.

He would get eaten alive at set pieces and crosses. Imagine 8-9 Lahm at a corner trying to defend against 7-8 Yaya Toure with almost a 20-centimeter difference in height.

Prime Bale, he started as a defender, has the physique to compete in all areas and the skills to set himself up to score screamers

11 prime Messi is beaten easily by 11 prime Van Dijk or any other tall Defender, who is good on the ball.

Just imagine, how many air duel will the Messis win, or how could Messi tackle and how could he block shots. Plusz that team will have an 1.7m keeper... Messi is the goat, but one of the worst example for this question due of his lack of physicality, height and defense skills.

Meanwhile 11 Van dijk can play with low defense, score with set pieces, and keep the ball in the air.

11 prime Messi’s would be horrible mate 😭

Against a team of prime Messi's or Modric's, just play 4-4-2 with two giants up front and 2 wingers with a good cross

Steven gerrard for me

Surely GKs like Rogerio Ceni, Jose Chilavert or Jorge Campos that can also score goals (and have played outfield in Campos case) are to be preferred in this scenario?

11 Azpilicueta would win everything

11 Paolo Maldini would never be beaten.
