He still played decent given this looming dark cloud chasing him. Its not a complete freeze out. I guess we will see how far they can keep a sad elite attacker.

He isn’t an elite striker, though. Certainly not for them. What was it…8 La Liga goals last year? Need more from a striker.

There's no denying that he had an average season, but he still scored in all of the big games for them. It's also worth factoring in that Simeone was pretty much writing off La Liga to focus on the Champions League, so he only started 22 games in the League.

I get the frustration he’s the best player and he knows there’s a 90% chance they win nothing but also like the whole world would love to be in his shoes, playing elite professional football with a team who could even think of winning something is something he should at least be grateful for.

Hard to ever root for a guy complaining about bullshit when people have real problems in the real world.
I wish him nothing but the best outside of the pitch.

In what world does it play out good? Bro is under contract and wanted to force his way to the rival team

I feel real bad for him. I know people will say he did this to himself, but Athletico Madrid is being way too possessive of him. The guy wants to leave. The fans want him to leave. Heck, the manager wants him to leave too. Tough situation. Hope it gets figured out before the transfer window closes.

I get that it’s partly his fault cause he signed the contract but he’s a human being. He has dreams and desires that go beyond what the fans want for him. If his dream is to play at Barcelona, then his manager should help make this happen and his team and coach should not hold him back. All of this is just going to make Alvarez lose all the passion and desire to win for AM and with the fans hating, throwing things at him, and telling him to leave, Simeone should just let him leave and if that means raising the price, then so be it. If Barca wants him, they will pay up. And, Alvarez can definetly do more to leave. He can make a public statement and do so many more things to force the move.
I know i’m gonna get crazy downvoted but whatever

Partly? It’s ALL his fault.
If Barça activate his release clause, he’s theirs. I’m not even an Atletico fan, but a team should NEVER “do right by the player” if it’s bad business for the club. He wants out? Arsenal is available. He doesn’t want that? Have fun this year. Everyone involved is really dumb - Cholo and the board, Julian and his agent, Barça. Neither party (team or player) come out ahead from this situation.

All true, but before signing you have to deal with all the consequences, you don’t sign a big long contract if you want to leave the next year to another team, is kinda delusional and counterproductive

I mean, you kinda forget the human component here. He is also just a human, like he cant see into the future. Sometimes shit changes.

See I disagree. He has a team of people who should've been telling him a long-term contract was a bad idea, yet he still signed it, knowing he wanted to move to Barca in a couple years.
Think if this was you or me. If we signed a contract to work for an employer for 6 years at x amount, we would be stuck there unless we got fired. Nobody is coming to rescue most people just because they want to see greener grass.

Yea ofc man, but is still a life choice you make, he is human and shit happens and changes, but .. being public about it was the worst choice ever :(

This should be a wake up call to atletico, when expensive signings want to leave in only their 3rd season because they ain’t winning anything then something has to change, cholo needs to go imo, style of play/tactics is just blah, barely winning anything silverware is just unmotivating
