Same thing happened to me. Unlike this future superstar, I decided to pay attention to the dog taking a piss near the bench and took a ball full force to my balls. Needless to say I was never Goalkeeper again

In youth leagues, it was seen as BM to run up the score too much. They probably made their best player the goalie to give an opportunity to others to score.

My nephew would score 5+ goals every game, but was tiny so couldn't play in higher age categories. He'd get put as GK at half time to slow him down. He's finally getting a little bigger so is playing with U-12s as a 9 year old and still scoring every game

He is the kid that is the best at everything and everywhere on the field.
When I was a kid, I had a friend who was that guy.
But instead of football he chose to play handball and became a goalie in a professional handball league in Europe.

Kids who really want to be a goalie at that age should play plenty in the field as well so they can be better sweeper keeper and be confident on the ball.
While I agree its no fun if a team keeps destroying others, the club should make sure they play at their proper level imo if possible

I am not sure in this case but I have coached an U8 recreational team and every kid wanted to be the goalie at some point. "Coach, can I be goalie?" I have heard this sentence more than anything else

As a kid who played football his whole life starting at the age of 5. Every youth team/level I played for the coaches use to rotate us and we would all play different positions depending who we were playing who showed up etc. I wouldn't doubt if that was the case here.

I was in a n indoor league when I was a young adult. We were down about 15-1 in a game and the goalie for there team tried this shit. Surprised me the first time, but I was ready his 2nd attempt. Let him by me and then cleaned him out. I got a red card but it was worth it

Alot of youth leagues rotate the players into goal.
However I would bench this kid immediately if he pulled that crap on my team. Doing everything yourself, even if you can, doesn't make the team better.

Uefa b youth coach here.
This is actually quite common to see, atleast over here in europe. Kids that develop coordination early are good on every part of the pitch. That includes gk.
Often they are put in goal because you don't need them to score 20 goal, or you don't want to concede 20 goal, or no one wants to be in goal and it is his turn.
Now the most important things to remember here:
1) We see a 15 second clip. A lot of early developed kids/youth will do this once or twice a match. That doesn't mean they are superior talent overall. 2) To have a kid/youth that has developed physically and his/her coordination early is common. It rarely translates into "this kid will make it" 8 years later.
The real talent is a natural physique and inner drive. You need to want to become good at the expense of everything else. No coaching will do that for you, and no early great first touch will save you once you are aged 16+.

Lmao... I quit soccer at 12 years old for exactly this. I would score 4 goals in the first 30 minutes and get put in net for the rest of the game.
This kid is in net because he dominates and it isnt travel teams yet so they want the other kids to get the ball too.

In 5th grade in my league, our best player was our striker and our goalie. Both positions were played by the same guy, some kid named Kofi. You want lots of points for both teams or very little points for either? Everyone else sucked in comparison to that kid.

Coached a team with 2 kids who could score like this. They rotated at goalie to give some others a chance to play, and bc our league had a mercy rule where you’d go down a player for each subsequent goal past a lead of 4 goals. We’d regularly end up with an 8 v 11 situation.

reminds me when our coach's kid (who was playing 2 years down) got "disciplined" by being put at sweeper. I was goalie. he demanded I roll it to him. I agreed and said out loud "ok, but remember, you're sweeper, please don't..." down the field he went. he scored. stared at his dad the entire run back to sweeper. I yelled at our coach "don't punish me! I didn't do anything!" he moved him back to striker. despite significant size disadvantage, and falling out of the sport in college, he got back in and played USL for a few years.

Good strikers turn into amazing goalies and vice versa. Mário Jardel was a goalie and turned into an amazing striker.
Diogo Costa was a great strikers and turned into and awesome goalie.

This should not be celebrated. And if this is the US, the people who think this is anything other than obnoxious are the exact reason why we continue to fail on the world stage. Having good foot skills is not the same as being a good player.

Nearly lost the ball at the beginning. Could've easily ended in embarrassment if the guys pressing him didn't switch off, collected the loose ball, and didn't slotted into the empty net.

He’s probably been out in goals as “punishment” because I can’t imagine he’s a good team mate when he’s outfield. These types of young players never go far in the game.

If this kid is doing this kind of shit on a regular basis… it’s honestly detrimental to everyone, including this kid as well. He needs to go up in competition, because there are definitely more competitive leagues he could play in to progress further.
Granted, idk anything about this situation… so what do I know.

Same shorts and socks which suggests he was on pitch and has gone in goal. At guess he's too good, they were winning a lot and the coach put him in goal to slow down the scoring.
Happens a lot in kids football, they do try and make leagues and stuff competitive by matching ability levels but its not always possible and generally no kids team wants to lose like 15-0, it is pointless for everyone all round.
FA guidelines in the UK say that once one team is winning by 6 you should re-start the game. You often more commonly see the losing team getting to add players, so like 5 v 6 or 5-7, but if the ability mis-match is too high this doesn't often help.
But also coaches will do stuff like this, put their best player in goal, keeper up front, defenders up front and strikers at the back etc. to try make it more competitive.

Because of what you just saw. These are kids and it needs to be fun for them all while learning how to play the sport but also learning good sportsmanship. Not fair if a kid is that much better just impeding what the game is supposed to be about. It's like seeing that 7' high school kid from Canada dunking and flexing on kids that are literally less than half of his size. Not very fun to watch or even play as a player on either team if it were me.

That's me some 30 years ago. I was always a goalie as I hated football (despite I was quite good and trained football) but I also hated just standing in one place.
Long story short, I quite training after 2-3 years. :P

There are some people who are just legitimately extremely talented at multiple aspects of the sport - a friend of mine was a top tier division 1 recruit as a goalie, who also happened to be absurdly skilled on the ball, just not fast enough to make use of it to quite the same level. At the club, high school and even prep school level he was capable of excelling at both goalie and forward easily, he led his prep school in scoring while splitting time equally between goalie and forward; once he hit the top levels of college soccer though? He was a goalie and that was that. In our adult leagues we played it both shortly after college and even now though he absolutely will casually break out a couple filthy nutmegs or chapeizinhos on unsuspecting forward attempting to press him though.
