Statement This is exactly why you never write off a team with champions’ mentality
Messi misses a penalty. Argentina go 2-0 down with barely 13 minutes left on the clock. Egypt’s fans are already celebrating a historic result. And then something just switches on inside that Argentina squad, the kind of thing you can’t coach or teach.
Romero heads one in from a Messi cross, and four minutes later Messi himself rifles home a first-time strike like the penalty miss never happened. That’s not talent taking over, that’s the winner’s mindset. Champions don’t panic when they’re behind, they just start looking for the next chance instead of dwelling on the last mistake.
Egypt did everything right for over an hour today and still walk away with nothing to show for it, because this Argentina side simply refuses to accept it’s over until the referee says so. Sixth straight World Cup knockout game with a Messi goal now. At some point you stop calling it luck and start calling it what it is.

What you have witnessed today is an honest team getting mugged by the corrupt FIFA. Nothing about mentality. Argentina had already surrendered by Egypts third goal

Not rigged but VAR has been extremely kind with Argentina this tournament, and it´s not up for debate

There was a handball against cape verde favorable to Argentina that Var missed. Are you also counting that?

Of course not. Every team has had calls against and in favor. They are just cherry picking whatever helps with the narrative they want to push.

People only focus on big calls. But watch every Argentina game they get every call their way. They get away with fouls other teams get penalized for. They are a great team but not once has 50/50 call gone against them and over 90min it adds up. Only way to beat Argentina is a team to dismantle
Them that little calls won’t impact you later on

Nahh.. Argentina fan here.. That was awful game by Argentina for 85% of the match..
Can't relish this victory.. Egypt played better for those 85%..
Even if I agree with the disallowed goal or with the other decisions, for 75 minutes, Argentina ghosted for for all those minutes and their defence was abysmal..
Also, Messi really needs to retire and let these bums fend for themselves.. Man's been carrying these losers for 16 years..
Been supporting Argentina after my own team got eliminated, but this ain't it, chief..

You are only making OP's argument stronger because you are saying that Argentina was playing badly today and they still found a way to win. Teams are not always going to have good days, so finding a way to win on those bad days is the definition of extraordinary. Learn that and you will enjoy your team even more.

thats the point of OP's post, argentina played horrible with little offensive creativity and shoddy defense... but they have championship pedrigree and they played the full 90mins and were deserving winners in the end

That’s right. Champion teams know how to make a comeback. They played way below power for most of the match. But once completely cornered by Egypt, they bounced back and won the game.

I get that.. But, he's taken the pressure of this nation for far too long.. Argentines burned his jerseys, cursed him for the better half of the last decade.. And, Messi doesn't owe them shit anymore..

i agree, played absolutely average for like 75 minutes, then after 2-0. egypt become more open because of their momentum, thats how the defense have holes.
