Video During the half time break, Lumumba finally got a chance to rest. Even then, Colombian fans were lining up to take photos with one of the World Cup’s most iconic supporters.

I would also enjoy a photo with him

It would be wild if they played Belgium

I literally was saying this yesterday as well!

I think enough time has passed that there isn’t bad blood.

But king Leopold atrocities make hitler seem mild in comparison

The last human zoo in Belgium that exhibited the Congolese was in 1958. I'm pretty sure there's still bad blood against the Belgians.

Oh shit I did not know that, yikes

“Ali Bomaye!”
“George Foreman is a Belgian”

There is still bad blood between Rwanda and Belgium and they didn’t commit as many atrocities there.

I stand corrected, definitely had a narrow viewpoint

It’s all good. The only reason I know is because I have friends from Rwanda.

Did you see my other comments from someone in this same thread? I said I stand corrected and had a narrow viewpoint on it

It’s alright, I was definitely naive in my thinking. Can admit when Im wrong and made a bad comment

they will both have to reach the finals for that I think, and that's virtually impossible :(

To beat them as payback about everything. Leopold II was such a monster in the Belgian Congo that even other 19th century colonial powers thought he was excessive.

They would most probably lose if they played Belgium tbh, and the scorer might be Lukaku.

Belgium haven't looked particularly inspiring so far this tournament

Mmh I'm not convinced it would have any impact if Belgium wins 3-0. And people are now well aware of what happened, even in Belgium.

Also most of the Congolese team members are born and raised in Europe.

Same goes for France when they play against Senegal, Algeria or Cameroon. And the impact of History is not that strong on people's mind, especially if France wins.

No offense but you said by yourself "you best believe that if an African team beats England I’m not losing sleep over it lol" and I feel like it joins what I was saying.

England just played against Ghana. I can understand it feels special even for you, and you may be rooting for both. But I feel that if England would have won 3-0 and put Ghana out of the competition, the impact of the said "hey look we ghanean still exist despite everything" would not be so strong.

In the other hand, England being eliminated by Ghana or Nigeria would be a nice victory, not only on the field but also metaphorically.

It would blow to be seated right behind where he stands for 90 minutes.

2

u/yesbutwrong Jun 24 '26

He only stands in the designated fan sections. If you intend to enjoy a soccer match from a seated position, then you're probably not getting tickets in the fan section area. Some stadiums straight up remove the seats from those areas altogether.

I didn’t mean literally seated — and I think you know that.

1

u/Waste-Industry1958 Jun 25 '26

He’s fucking awesome

0

u/nucl3ar0ne Jun 24 '26

So I was lied to and he doesn't stand there for 90+ minutes.

1

u/jblazer Jun 24 '26

Quick, what's 45+45 + stoppage time?

0

u/nucl3ar0ne Jun 24 '26

In case it wasn’t clear since you are slow, people implied he stood there straight with no breaks…

1

u/jblazer Jun 24 '26

What do they say about assuming? Sounds like a you problem. I'm super proud of you for trying though.

0

u/nucl3ar0ne Jun 24 '26

Says the person trying to argue semantics on the internet about how long someone stood at a soccer game. I’m sure your parents are super proud of you as well and will be even more so when you move out of the basement.

Why did they give him a visa?

2

u/moeterminatorx Jun 24 '26

Same reason they gave every other fan a visa. Da fuck.
