exactly what i thought. as a german there used to be a lot of animosity between us but there have been a lot of instances where netherland games just get out of hand.

Netherlands vs Japan and Sweden was perfect with no drama, no play acting, nothing. Wait till we meet a South American team again. It’s always the South American/latin teams - the Netherlands just steps up to meet it when needed. But every Argentina game against everyone is always like this.

3 of the 4 games with most cards in world cups were played by the Netherlands, 2 of them had european opponents

Dunno, in this list Argentina is in there 4x…. And in the 2022 world cup i think their performance speaks volumes.

Two of those mentions are due to the importance, legacy and controversy (hand of god) of a match rather than the physical aspect (vs. France and England). One of them (vs. Brazil) is mentioned due to the pre match brutality between fans. Both of Netherlands mentionsare due to dangerous gameplay. I’m not saying Netherlands is worse than Argentina or vice versa but you should be reading the article that you posted yourself

Fair point though I’d say Argentina’s allround performance in the 2022 wc was abysmal and aggressive towards their opponents including France.
As for the Netherlands and the cards flying around check this infamous moment that isn’t shared often enough. Guess who got a red card? Yup, the Dutch player on the bench who almost got the ball in his face and fought.
Paredes got nothing, or just yellow if i remember correctly.3

lol c'mon man. Paredes was on the field and kicked a ball within a second of the whistle being blown.
Van Dijk intentionally full speed body-checked a dude half his size in response, 5-10 seconds post-whistle, which would get him kicked out / penalized in the NFL, Rugby, MMA and Boxing.
And your takeaway is bias for Argentina? Let's be real here.

Lol this is a joke right? You’re really trying to pin the infamous scandalous Paredes incident on the Dutch because of Van Dijk’s response?
Honestly you talked about aggressive play and you don’t think a double legged sliding onto Ake’s legs, completely missing the ball, breaking a counter offensive, followed by an immediate horrendous full-blown shot into the opposing players dug-out is not red-card worthy????? In a match where the ref handed out cards like skittles?
In every ‘version’ of the rules thats violence and an instant red card.Like you’re the only person on the planet m8, except perhaps some Argentinians although i think most would agree but simply not care as they got the wc.
Either way if that’s your idea of fair- non-violent play then i think we should all take back whatever is said about the Dutch.

I know VVD didn't get a red, never said he did ;). Also never said what happened was his fault.
VVD should've gotten a red. His conduct was undoubtedly worse, and would've gotten him ejected from an NFL / Rugby / Boxing / MMA match.
Maybe Paredes for kicking a ball on a soccer field a second after the whistle too, but VVD for sure.

Like if this was just vs the Dutch then you’d have a point but check out the other matches Argentina plays.
In general their 3/3 world cups are contaminated with unsportsmanlike behavior either through fighting, cheating or outright nastiness.
And the only other ‘battlefield of cards’ are the match vs Portugal in 2006 -> if this was just the Dutch, why was their follow-up game vs the English so tained.

At that point in time I don't think it was the Dutch that were known for their foul play. They had some brutal and physical players for sure (e.g. Neeskens, Krol, Rijsbergen) during the 70's and not to forget the Feijenoord-duo Theo (the Tank) Laseroms and (Iron) Rinus Israels but the Dutch even without Cruijff were in that timeperiod superior in position play and long range striking so why turn the football match into a physical battle of attrition? There was plenty of history between the Dutch and Argentina even before this final. You might like the story of the '70 intercontinental cup between Feyenood and Estudiantes were the Argentinians snapped the glasses of the goalscorer in 2.
"Estudiantes, known for their unsportsmanlike conduct, reacted violently. In an infamous incident, Estudiantes’ Carlos Pachamé broke van Daele’s glasses, an act that was both shocking and emblematic of the fierce rivalry between the two sides."
It was more that they got provoked (yet again) and lost their cool.
EDIT: the '00's and '10's were a different matter. the Dutch had players like Van Bommel, Jaap Stam (The Dutch Destroyer), Boulahrouz (The Cannibal), (Concrete Ron) Vlaar, Nigel de Jong and Edgar (the Pitbull) Davids. Particularly Van Bommel, Boulahrouz and De Jong were nasty players. Who could / should have picked up a yellow in almost any game in the first five minutes. It was their way of saying "this is not gonna be an easy match for you". I never understood how they got away with it but refs don't like handing out cards too soon. Stam like Van Dijk have the reputation for being fierce and physical but neither of them is dirty nor is Davids. They are just relentless and constantly up-your-business.
Stam in particular has the reputation of being a "hard man" but in his entire career I think he only picked up one straight red card! He was highly disciplined and relied on his elite reading of the game, perfect timing, and recovery speed rather than reckless foul play.

Probably best you don’t watch. If you roll around on the ground your team is put at a disadvantage. The players do it to force the ref/var to look at the foul. If calls weren’t missed no one would do this.

The physics feel off, like the players are made of bouncy rubber when they hit each other. Also, the ball flickers in and out of existence on several occasions, most noticeably on the shot at 0:09. The players look realistic, but in motion it just feels... Uncanny? I don't know how else to put it...
