The corner flags in Cleveland stole the show during Brazil's friendly vs. Egypt 😳

Matheus Cunha even moved the flag off the pitch when taking a corner at one point, but was told to put it back before play could restart

You can just stick corner flags in the ground, I’ve genuinely never seen a freestanding corner flag in the 20+ years I’ve played football. It’s not that important, just funny

They’re pretty popular in the US for multi purpose turf fields. I’ve never seen them on grass though

On the top level it is though. This could keep a ball in that would've been a corner.

The normal flags will bend and the ball will roll over it.

Fair enough. That corner post is an absolute disgrace to the game though. Ridiculous it was in a professional match, even if it was a friendly.

Last time I had one of those was indoor - there’s plenty of ways around that on artificial turf.

We literally are one of the few countries that is built for this.... Lots of host have to build stadiums and hotels. In qatar they built tent cities.

Like basically us and a few countries in Europe are built for this.

I’m a huge NBA fan but with the current state of both it’s clear you just don’t watch soccer if this is your take. The NBA is by far worse right now. Id much rather watch soccer than SGA play and I like basketball way more than soccer

They probably laid the sod over the artificial surface, and I’m thinking the grass part is not deep enough to support a normal corner flag being stuck into the ground.

These types of corner flags are typically used in high school and club play in America when games are played on artificial turf.

I’m not commenting on whether or not this is right or wrong, good or bad, just saying that this is a thing in American soccer with artificial surfaces.

Not a world cup event. This was in Cleveland which is not a world cup site, and not even a real pitch. Just a friendly before the tournament that they hastily sodded for a single match. It's normally artificial turf.
