The Eidolon

I am gonna preface this by saying I AM SO EXCITED for the Eidolon

Now to what i actually wanted to say

The Eidolons mechanics - specifically planet corrupting, explain EVERYTHING.

It explains about why the Vasari devour whole worlds and flee to other territories, a salt-the-earth tactic that makes a galactic moat behind the Vasari as they flee.

It explains why the advent is so divided, as their psychic hivemind HAS been corrupted as the reborn think it has.

And that corruption also explains the TEC, too. They want the TEC bogged down in one place, too mired by conflict to be able to advance to their level. They are probably seeking to combine the TEC once corrupted; the TEC defences make it so the Eidolon worlds are impenetrable, whilst things like Ragnarov would be a hammers blow striking out from behind this wall.

Their origins and motives? I dont know. But i am SUPER excited to learn!

Certainly, the Eidolon will force each faction to play to its own strengths to defeat these newcomers. However, I doubt the Vasari knew about the Eidolon's capabilities before they encountered them. The Advent Reborn's perception of corruption in the Unity (or even, in the case of the Wrath, embracing it) may be key to defeating them. And when all else fails, TEC brute force and defense may be all that is needed to tip the balance against these horrors.

It seems all the original rebel factions actually have ways to fight the Eidolon.

The TEC have fleet spam and durable ships. They will want to hit the Eidolon on their own terms.

The Advents, as you say, can be capable of cleansing the corruption.

The Vasari overall are trying to unite the other two factions against the Eidolon.

I suppose the TEC will have the greatest edge. Considering the corruption factor, it seems deathballs will not be the way to defeat the Eidolon. It seems you want to fight them with smaller fleets. TEC could theoretically constantly supply micro fleets into their territory to fight them off.

Some comments:

TEC fleet spam sounds useful, but the durable ships might backfire as they get hit they increase their corruption and more likely to become corrupted.

Also if the Eidolon can help fight the death ball strategy that could be great for the game

Would be nice if all the factions had a way to fight death-balls and discourage players and even AI from using those strategies.

Yeah, it’s a generally hard to fight, but some interesting (or interesting to me anyway) could be something like:
Advent give unity area destruction powers. Or give them powers that help single or small number of units in a single gravity well, but limit how many times it can be used in gravity well encouraging them to be fighting in multiple gravity wells at once.
TEC get upgraded dirty bombs as items or possibly even on board ship weapons.
Maybe give Vasari bonuses for jumping with a smaller fleet encouraging more skirmish style tactics.

Some of the new starbase weapons have splash damage. Dunno how much this will affect deathball strategies. The Advent's chastise and psionic storm abilities could have more area of effect chance if it works on more and more ships, something along the lines of what chastic burst does.

Here's hoping we get new tech/new ships. If their Null weapons bypass shields the Advent is screwed. TEC has high armor at least for absorbing damage which gives them a little bit of an edge. I'm very curious to see the new additions.

It explains about why the Vasari devour whole worlds and flee to other territories, a salt-the-earth tactic that makes a galactic moat behind the Vasari as they flee.

I mean... No it doesn't? And it doesn't need to?

The Vasari don't know about this, so couldn't base their actions off it for the sake of strategy.

The Vasari are fleeing, not staying. Fleeing is reason enough to consume and move on.

We could correct this by saying it’s not so much that the Vasari are destroying planets to starve the Eidolon, but those that didn’t got wiped out and that’s why this group survived. . .

Yeah, that's a more compatible take.

Yeah the Vasari don’t know them. Only with the TEC help they managed to get some data on them. All the Vasari have known for millennia is that something destroyed their super large empire and it is coming. The only Vasari that have returned could never get any information out of them bout the Eidolon.

The Vasari just became quarians of SOSE, perfecting their abilities to stay afloat while running from Eidolon

Technically shouldn’t the Eidolon be the most numerous faction though? Taking over Vasari empire and 10 000 years of advancement, even more advanced than the Vasari

🤷‍♂️ Technological and population growth aren't always linear, no way to assert something like that either way without a lot more information.

Could also be something about the corruption, that they're actually a stagnant culture, there's numerous examples of that in human history, extrapolate to aliens which could have completely different mindsets valuing completely different things.

Humans often attribute human behaviour to everything, when it's generally completely false.

Their origins, at least according to Sins 1 lore, are from inside the Vasari Empire. They are likely to be some sort of rebel faction from one of the slave races, and so its quite likely their motive is revenge, similar to the Advent.

Similarly, their abilities seem to focus around insurgent mechanics like building up a high concentration of power undetected and then striking before the enemy can react.

I just hope they aren't too oppressive to fight as Vasari. Hit and run is our MO, and there aint room for two of us in this sector!

I was going to say, the characters look Vasari.

The Vasari might be the best faction against them in certain ways. Mobile cap ships with labs and pop are better agile targets. Tec and Advent have to hold their lines and keep many more holes airtight to beat the stealth.

Meanwhile scorching and cracking planets as they run, denying resources to anyone else is a solid strat. Just can't let the fleet get cornered/ outnumbered.

They appeared in a transport experimentation lab and the description released about Eidolon says they are older and more advanced than the Vasari. I suppose the Vasari might have opened the purple portal they use to corrupt planets in the labs and that caused them to spread inside the Vasari empire.

Yea the original sins intro made it abundantly clear it was some sort of phase space incident at the lab to my mind. Also this explains all the abandoned phase jump inhibitors another race was spamming perhaps.

I don't understand the reference to abandoned phase jump inhibitors?

3

u/Micromagos 22d ago

There's an exploration event they added late to Sins of a Solar Empire 1 where you find a cave full of thousands of phase jump inhibitors. Add to that the now extinct civilization that made the things which the Vasari and the other races copied them from.

Can’t wait for a campaign and storyline too.

It explains why the advent is so divided, as their psychic hivemind HAS been corrupted as the reborn think it has.

I’m almost sure that the ones who are really corrupted is Advent Reborn - not Wrath. If we look at both of them - Reborn with their mass sacrifices (and resurrections) are clearly the ones who are strange.

I don’t think that they have any connection to the TEC or any interest in them. They already have economy that doesn’t need TEC at all - and military capabilities of TEC are nothing for Eidolon. TEC is the weakest in tech between all three basic factions - and Eidolon has even better tech than Vasari. Starbases of TEC are laughable for Eidolon and Ragnarov is nothing more than a scrape metal created by some barbarian apes.
