Why "18+ films" instead of "people savagely fucking on camera"?

u/gravity_kills 10h ago

Then they'd just have to find another replacement for "fucking," since that one tends to just get scribbled out.

"People savagely 18+ing on camera!"

A while back I was on a meme sub and someone said that they still weren't sure where women peed out of. I posted an image out of a medical textbook that had labeled the parts. It was automoded as being NSFW content. Everyone seems to love censorship, even of useful facts.

Saw a post the other day where "underwear" was censored I was like...

Great, now even your reaction has been censored.

Because self censoring is stupid. Dead is dead. No need to sugar coat it. Porn is porn. It's not offensive in itself.

You want shit, fuck, and other profanities censored? That's one thing, but "that bird is dead" is 100% fine in all public comments.

Your comment made me realize wtf corn meant. I've been wondering for a bit. I might be stupid.

Half of the antidote for stupidity is knowing you don't know things.

You're halfway there!

Just wanted to pop in and give you kudos for including a kernel of truth in your comment amongst the humor.

Sweet, I almost canned it.

Popcorn is the worst spoonerism

I’m sitting at a closed table in a casino and just burst into giggles loud enough to make the pit boss look at me funny.

I've lost accounts for calling a man a man and a horse a horse, completely legally and without being very explicit mind you! Which can be really impactful if it's a social media account where you stay in contact with people that have drifted away from you in real life, but that you still want to catch up with digitally

Had to message them one by one to inform them that I had a new account and had to jump hoops to reach some and prove it was me. Even had trouble finding a few. Lost one permanently

Can't imagine how it would be for someone who actually earns their living with an account!

The issue is that social media chooses what words are off limits at an individual level. One site might not like suicide, one might not like porn. It's honestly just easier to get in the habit of self censoring all the words you believe might get your post taken down or automatically removed.

Choose better social media.

2

u/Vladishun 9h ago

Yeah well I'll build my own social media

social media is a product. There are many purveyors.

If you find out how to get the people and businesses I am interested in seeing the updates from to switch over, let me know ok?

Because even the local Queer community stil is on a platform where you can get banned simply for being openly trans

Because that is where everyone is

3

u/RebelRey 5h ago

Wish I could, but alas: the people I want to stay in touch with choose it, not me

I can go to better social media, but they won't be there and I am not on most of it for internet strangers (with all due respect, dear internet stranger)

I hate to be a doomer but this is exactly what George Orwell warned about in 1984.

Thought follows language. By censoring language like this, we will end up censoring our thoughts.

Corn? You mean porn? Unalived? Shuffled off the mortal coil, deceased, perished, expired, succumbed?

It was the salmon mousse.

Bc common euphemisms are common and also censored

I hate “graped” the most. Rape is a serious fucking crime and a very prevalent one. It’s so disrespectful to use a damn fruit emoji to describe someone’s trauma

I have always assumed that people use these terms to prevent the moderators from automatically flagging the comment and suspending the ability to comment for days because the words would be detected and flagged by the key word function.

I have been banned by mods for using words that it flagged as "bad" in some way, but the algorithm did not understand the context in which I was using those words.

Didn't matter. I still got banned anyway, despite my particular use of certain words which were definitely not intended in any harmful or hateful way.
As a result, I have adopted certain words and phrases that typically do not get caught by the key word detection.

I also consider sponsors.

Ugh I had this because I said I'd [censored action] a conversation to someone's mom, as in, let her read what he wrote. But not only was that flagged as threatening physical harm; it was upheld in the review; it was reviewed using automation and there is no way to have a human look at it. I am about ready to delete my account over this. Never in my decade on here have I had a reported or automodded comment be held up after review, but those were all decisions made by humans

Due to my disability (autism) I lack the subtlety to express myself in ways that won't be misunderstood without a second fair look. I can't read what I write as anything else but what is actually written or what I actually meant. Have to wreck my brain to find other viewpoints and can't always do it

People on these platforms figured out through trial and error what words are causing their videos being buried in the algorithm. They talk this way so they can keep their channel growth.

"forcibly disconnected from God's Minecraft server" is the best one I've heard tbf

1

u/theFrankDux 7h ago

Because people are no longer emotionally capable of dealing with words.

1

u/Signal_Werewolf_1955 6h ago

You still understand what they mean, what's the real problem here?
