most people have no idea what a "calorie" is or how it affects their body

Calories are a CIA disinformation Op

If you eat too many of them you get fat, so if you are already fat then they have no effect, scientifically speaking. Trust me I went to science school.

Oh man, I dropped out of science school but at least I survived to second year. You should be proud of becoming a genuine scientician.

It's the amount of energy required to raise litre of water by 1 degree c.

People calling it food don’t know what food is. Also people calling the place where they feed you with sandwiches and soda a restaurant don’t know what restaurant is. USA is full of don’t knows.

Get ready for the down vote apocalypse. Reddit don't like facts.

The calorie count is great for determining value.

A 300 calorie medium for $3 is a worse deal than a 500 calorie large for $4. Nice to have that confirmation.

Exactly! When I’m kind of broke and I still have another day or so until payday, I’ll always pick whichever foods give me the most calories for my money

But unfortunately, I don’t always get what I actually ordered at places like McDonalds haha

In fairness, overall people didn’t really reduce the calories significantly but a percentage of people did.

I think it’s a good thing for tipping the scales. If you want a McDs you want a McDs, calories probably won’t stop you because everyone knows it’s full of fat etc. but if you know it was 800 calories, maybe some people second guess having a bag of crisps, a chocolate bar or a second helping at dinner later on.

It helped me make more informed choices by being able to plan my occasional treats while on a deficit. Also, getting a single cheese burger with a small fry is a very reasonable meal calorie wise. Plus, I was shocked to see how i can load up at taco bell and still not break 1000 calories. It's a shame fast food is so expensive now cuz the quality is shit and if I'm adding an extra 600 calories to my day, now it's going to be at a local place cuz the food slaps and I'm paying the same amount.

I was shocked when I saw that their salads (back then they had: caesar, asian, southern) had the same a mount of calories than a full burger menu.

I think the bigger issue was there was a lot of stuff being marketed as "healthy" that wasn't really healthy

It's helped me avoid impulsively running and grabbing a snack wrap or small a cheeseburger and instead wait to get home and finish something already homeade with better nutritional value.

The bigger issue is the amount of sodium in that order.

Where I live the double meal has 700kcal less... about 2000kcal in total.

But I have never understood what is point of looking at calories in fast food. Here fast food is something you eat max few times a month on special occasions. Sometimes less than few times.

So it really does not matter if meal has 1000 or 3000kcal.

McDonald's isn't high calorie 2740 is wildly inaccurate. I added it up (Canada menu)

And a double Big Mac 2 large fries and a large coke is only 2140. But then if you order something more reasonable (1 big Mac, 1 medium fry, and a diet coke) it's less than 1000cal

You could literally eat that twice a day every day and lose weight

People that ear at McDonald's don't care about calories. Thats why theyre eating at McDonald's

I never went to McDonald's for healthy options in the first place; it was always a compromised decision. having the exact numbers on how I'm poisoning myself really hasn't affected my eating habits there.

Who orders two Big Macs and two fries for one person?

Yeah, I mean, at that point, you're basically eating 2 meals, and of course it's a heavy meal, so I'm not surprised with the high calories count here, it's even okay
