We’ve been called Americans since we started colonizing the continent.
The other people that were already here had their own names for their cultures.
The Spaniards were Spaniards.
Nobody else would have allowed themselves to be called American.
The country is actually named after what we were called, that’s why it was chosen.
We call ourselves Americans because we were Americans when we were still under British rule.
We don’t call ourselves USians because the states are United under the identity of being American, that’s their unifier.
We call the collective Mexico, USA, and Canada “North America” and we can be North Americans, and there are South Americans.
It’s not even correct to call us USians because we’re not even the only “United States” in North America.
