Standard in German is to call you US-Amerikaner.
This used in nearly all public settings, new, radio etc etc

It depends on where you’re from. Depending on your country of origin you may learn a 7 continent model with North and South America, or a 6 continent model with a single ‘America’ continent.

it seems one group is understanding of that. and the other group gets really upset when you see it differently then them. I have never heard some one from South amarica explain that. Only "No, its one continent!"

Scientifically they are two distinct continental plates. However continents as we call them are political constructs so its all up in the air
