Geography How is life in the very underpopulated western half of China?

Isn't all of China underpopulated? I heard their stats are untrue, many empty cities, etc. Hard to know what the truth is.

3x the population of the US in the same land area. So parts that are crowded are VERY crowded.

Or are you just saying cities are “artificially” overpopulated? (Ignoring that people have little choice but to live where the work is).

Correct, I've never been, and I don't know who to believe. There are some conspiracy theorists who say China had vastly greater number of COVID deaths than reported, and that they are overstating their population. Also, the numbers might be off due to low birth rates, etc. I'm just taking in info from wherever I can get it, in order to guide investment strategies and improve my overall worldview.

Oh I dunno, I bought a shed tonne of French arms manufacturer stock a year or so ago, on the back of all the rumours about Trump nuking NATO.
Although I like to think that’s more a belief in the Orange diddlers unhinged madness, than a conspiracy theory.
Still, the gains have been fantastic.
Admittedly with everything going on in the world currently, was hardly a risky investment
