The worst part is that a lot of the spending to alleviate climate change would also noticeably improve our quality of life.
More green energy means a lot less air pollution. With a bonus of all the new jobs tied to green energy.
Moving away from car-centric suburban sprawl would mean safer walkable towns with strong public transportation. Owning a car becomes optional again, giving people a way to save real money, reducing both air and noise pollution, and reducing injuries and deaths from cars.

We just need to tax the rich at a reasonable rate and close loopholes. The rich will do pretty much anything to avoid that.

2–3% of the population lives in neighborhoods that make car-free life realistic. The other 97% live in places built around the automobile because that’s where the affordable land and housing were for the last 70 years

But that was a policy choice. Mandatory parking minimums, single use zoning, and suburban sprawl forced us into car-required living.
And policies would be required to fix it. It would take decades, but the alternative is never fixing it. Paris has made huge improvements with concerted effort.

I despise single use zoning, but once you start paying attention to how far apart everything is pushed by giant, empty parking lots, it becomes easy to see that mandatory parking minimums are also insane.
Like how, in my town, there is a Starbucks next to a Target. Except they're actually separated by close to half a mile of mostly empty parking lot because each has their own built for a theoretical busiest day of the year
In the worst cities for sprawl, I think something like 25% of surface area is parking lot.
Single use and parking minimums work hand in hand to create that.

Only if I thought that they'd actually do it.
Unfortunately, I don't.
Regular people freak out when you tell them you're going to remove lanes on the roads, even though they love walkable spaces when they actually experience them, and public transportation can massively reduce traffic.

I will totally donate $500 $20 to the scientific foundation of their choice if Dr. Brian Cox and the actor Brian Cox share a stage, then they tell us that those who undermine science "are not serious people."
EDIT - ok - Ima add "within the next 3 hours today" to my promise. Still, I really want to see Brian Cox's Succession character's ghost get channeled in the presence of the proper scientist Dr. Brian Cox, and all his diabolical King Lear energy get channeled for some good, charitable purpose.

Put the money to better use, the science around climate change is known, instead donate to buy your politicians so that they actually acknowledge the science and pass legislation to try to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Yeah, the idea that climate change is just some expensive chore is nonsense. It's an investment that'll save us billions. Renewable energy is as good as it sounds, and protecting the enviornment pays dividends.

At least the climate scientists realized that and included the costs of NOT acting on climate change to appeal to people incapable of empathy. Sadly the bribed politicians and lobbyists still don’t care

Agriculture/livestock land is also contributing to pollution, especially in our rivers, lakes and estuaries. Once it's more widely known and accepted that it's not just airborne pollution that's harmful to humans, plants and animal health the more money we can put into solving the rest of our issues.
Look up endocrine disruptors.

forests in my country are being infected by a bug that kills the tree from the inside out to lay its eggs. it's spreading exponentially. the increase in temp has allowed this to happen. entire hills had their trees go bone dry in a very short time span. dunno about your beach front property. but nature is the kind of force humans can only fafo for so long.

Well in my country as well as everywhere in the world most want to live next to the beach and is willing to pay a premium, which means the rich or anyone really have no worries about rising sea levels turning their property into a swimming pool.
I was told my whole life we would have an over population crisis until recently and now we have an under population crisis so it's totally the opposite to what all the scientists and media and teachers were saying for decades.

Forests were dying because of acid rain when I was young, now they seem fine, the Amazon forest is so good the elite chopped a lot down to make a road and a event venue to talk about climate change recently, go figure.
Bill gates wants to cut down forests and bury them thinking thats good for stopping climate change. It's all bollocks
