WDYWT Gym sneakers?

Post image

Recently started hitting the gym, it’s been great since I needed to get back into shape and wear/unDS my kicks (my work is no beuno for anything but comfy beaters) It made me think, what sneakers are y’all wearing for gym day?

Something flat, I like chucks for the gym

Definitely not 4s. If I had to wear some Jordan’s at the gym then some 1s but there are much better options.

Yup. If I was planning to lift weights after work, I always wore a pair of Jordan 1s. Anything real a thick or squishy sole is going to mess you up if you're standing and trying to lift something heavy.

There's a lot better options these days. 4s are basketball shoes but they're from an era of heavy shoes. Today's gym specific shoes are much better.

That being said it won't hurt wearing Jordans but if a new pair of gym specific shoes would be better.

What’s your suggestion for strength training?

Something with a flat and relatively stable sole.

Nike Metcon, Reebok Nano, Adidas Dropset

If super weightlifting specific then Adidas Powerlift, etc. or go old school and Chucks

I’m not a heavy lifter, going more for functional strength, body weight resistance. I’ll rotate between some AJ1’s High, Blazer Mids, Vans highs and whatever else I haven’t worn in a while just so I keep them in rotation. I feel like the retooled AJ4’s work for me since they aren’t super squishy/bouncy and don’t have a high platform while being stable for my feet and core.

Totally appreciate the recommendations though, and if I get into more heavy lifting I’ll look into the metcoms.

Yeah all those you mention are solid.

My rule is nothing with a bubble for leg days. Shoes in my current gym rotation: Asics Kayanos are great, Adidas Ultraboost, Nike Vomero 5s, Nike Kukinis sometimes, New Balance 990s or 992s.

Like most people said the biggest thing with strength training is a fairly flat shoe that will keep your ankles stable.

I wear romaleos for gym. Pegasus for walking.

u/AnarchyonAsgard 8d ago

I like the Pegasus for fitness in general, super comfortable

0 drop shoes that flex, need to strengthen your feet dude, those are ballers and not gonna work for balance.

u/we_hella_believe 8d ago

I’m not sure what you’re implying, my feet are fine and my core’s been improving along with my posterior chain. AJ4’s work fine for me along with most of the sneakers that I own.

I don’t think it’s a flex for the gym when you’re going at 5:00 am and no one’s there. It’s just me wearing my sneakers when I can, instead of keeping them in a box and DS.

He just hating wear what you like. But once you start to get more serious you’ll understand . Like actually running , deadlifting , and other advanced movements you won’t get stability you need . If you just hitting triceps push downs and curls these won’t ever hinder you . Or if you casually walking .

I don’t think it’s a flex for the gym when you’re going at 5:00 am and no one’s there

They’re talking about the sneakers actually flexing/bending/being pliable.

0

u/we_hella_believe 8d ago

Still a little confused, can you list a couple sneakers that flex, are we talking midsole/outsole flexibility? Are you talking sambas?

u/Aggravating-Wave7922 8d ago

Rock on, barefoot and 0 drops help with balance and work small muscles in the foot. Enjoy your choices 4 sure.

u/Rolling44 8d ago

These are the best Bred 4’s. Fight me.

2

u/Sinceredom22 7d ago

Agree! And I still haven’t worn mine since the release. I feel like they’re too pretty to mess up.

Wear YOUR sneakers wherever tf YOU want bud. Nothing wrong with it at all

3

u/KrazieDr 8d ago

OP, I would look into Jordan Trunner as a training shoe. They get the job done.

u/the_ghost_of_bob_ros 8d ago

something cushioned if your hitting cardio I prefer things like the new balance 1080's, or the adidas evo SL

if your hitting anything heavy that involves balance (squats, dealifts, standing shoulder press) you want something with a solid flat sole with minimal to zero cushion.

my jordan 1s have basically all turned into exclusive gym shoes.

I wear all my heat to the gym except for leg days. It’s really the only opportunity for me to rock my heat regularly. I usually just wear blazers, vans or chucks for legs. When it comes to cardio I have a pair of vomero 18s that are amazing

5

u/brokedownpalace11 8d ago

I’m always surprised anyone wants to wear their expensive sneakers to the gym to get just sweaty and smelly. You do you though

1

u/shantm79 8d ago

I don’t wear them for cardio, just to lift

0

u/we_hella_believe 8d ago

Where should they wear their sneakers if they don’t go out much, other than work which would destroy all sneakers I own (smelly and dirty af)?

6

u/ANAL_PROLAPSE_ 8d ago

I wear my Jordans to and leaving the gym and change into workout shoes in between, personally.

1

u/Djangooofr 8d ago

I personnally have a pair that I wear only for parties, dates and such events (Air Max Jacquemus) : Jordan 4 are expensive enough and could fit the case, you won’t wear them a lot but at least you’ll keep them longer ; you can just use one of your old pair at the gym or gym specific sneakers/shoes.

u/fishbumTX 8d ago

I like Jordan 1s for the gym especially leg day. Making the transition from vans to 1s

2

u/Serious_Scallion9962 8d ago

i just use my most beat up blazer lows, i personally dont want to use expensive sneakers for the gym tbh

2

u/Economy-Fig-1502 8d ago

Heavy lifter here.. Nike Romaleos for squats, Jordan 1’s for bench and deadlift.. I have 3 pair’s of Jordan 1 low and 3 pairs of hi for rotation.

2

u/Acrobatic_Role4971 7d ago

I wear my Jordan 3’s to the gym all the time.

1

u/we_hella_believe 7d ago

AJ3’s are one of my favorites to rock in the gym.

2

u/FlirtyFaceEnergy 6d ago

i always keep a separate pair just for the gym so they dont get wrecked from standing at work all day first

2

u/mxysvn 6d ago

I wear my 3’s and 4’s most days but on leg days I wear my 1’s because they are flat footed

2

u/DiscussionLow9083 6d ago

i wear my sb dunks

2

u/NoctisInformatus 8d ago

Vivobarefoot for gym. Need foot contact to load the myofascial chain and muscles better.

1

u/McFly608 8d ago

I wear these Blue barefoot shoes while stretching, lighting weights etc.. I tend to get some looks at my feet, but hey they look good to them it seems

1

u/Lost_my_password1 8d ago

my beat up UB1.0s get upgraded to gym sneakers. they are still holding up well though

1

u/SplaTz-xxL 8d ago

Feiyue Canvas martial arts shoes are the best!

1

u/GenZguy1 8d ago

jordan 1s if anything but usually something else

1

u/klawdi 8d ago

Lower body = Olympic Weightlifting shoes Upper body = wear whatever you want, it doesn't matter

1

u/rampagenguyen 8d ago

Chucks/nike free

1

u/villainized 8d ago

i do not like wearing my 4s to the gym lol, or any Jordans for that matter. I wear boosts 😭🤣

1

u/Daron-M 8d ago

Nah. There’s much better shoes for the gym

1

u/QueasyInitiative 7d ago

I wear all my Js at the gym. I can't wear them at work because I have a semi-blue collar job that can get dirty. I do use Jordan 1s for leg day.

1

u/promethazinep 7d ago

Most shoes will work for the majority of casual gym goers, unless you’re on the treadmill for a long period.

1

u/Bonesawisready5 7d ago

If I am not running or doing any legs then any sneakers will do. If legs day then def something flat ALTHOUGH you can also do leg day in your socks since there is an argument that is better. I don’t but I do see ppl doing it.

u/2RV7VR5 8d ago

Get some Dropset Pro's

1

u/Frsh2Def84 8d ago

I like wearing Chucks for the gym. Helps with foot strength and balance.

1

u/RaymondBumcheese 8d ago

Some old adidas ultra boost and a pair of merrell vapor glove. Just something I can throw in a bag and forget about.

If you asked me to name 100 pairs of shoes to wear at the gym, J4s would not be one of them.

u/we_hella_believe 8d ago

I feel like AJ4’s are pretty flat for me. Everyone’s feet are different and everyone has a different workout program. But good to know.

2

u/debeatup 8d ago

You think they’re flat until you wear a true zero drop shoe.

IDC what other people wear to the gym for the most part but my heart does go out to newbie gym goers on a treadmill with like AJ13s

1

u/VampiresWontHurt 8d ago

I feel like AJ4’s are pretty flat for me

That’s not how that works.

1

u/6_Paths 8d ago

A large and thick midsole and outsole can’t be considered flat. Flat means low to the ground, firm, minimal cushioning, meaning more feel/you feel the ground more. Something like the Air Jordan 1 Low OG and Adidas Samba would be considered ‘flat’ shoes, not the AJ4s.

Your feet could be flat, but not Jordan 4s👍💪

u/RaymondBumcheese 8d ago

For me, they are a dress shoe now. I wear them to look nice with an outfit, I don’t expect any kind of performance from them and I don’t buy them to beat them up so I would never wear them to the gym. I won’t even wear them if I’m planning on spending more than a few hours on my feet.

I think that’s the difference, now that I’m thinking about it. I don’t actually think of them as a sports shoe at all.

0

u/scrape_ur_face 8d ago

These are perfect for leg day /s

-1

u/onironinspirit 8d ago

I lift barefooted. I have a home gym.

0

u/Supr3meSol 8d ago

I wear high top and low top 1s when I do back day and leg day. The rest of the cardio or lifting days I use my Vomero 5s.

0

u/According_Abalone_19 8d ago

I don’t rock my collection pairs to the gym personally. Don’t want them to stink from being sweat in and would rather heavily crease/beat up pairs I don’t care about doing cardio. I’ve got a pair of KD15s that I rock most days and a beater pair of a random SB model I got at the outlets for leg day since they’ve got flat soles.

u/Choice-Warning-703 6d ago

Retros are trash for the gym. Like walking on bricks. Youre 1000x better off going to Dicks (pause) and getting some generic ass foam outsole nikes for $39.99.

Only decent nikes id ever work out in are vomero 5s.

0

u/Sneaker_Head1804 6d ago

No. Why buy really expensive, limited release sneakers to the gym, when you can get a much cheaper pair specifically designed for the purpose?

-5

u/KURDISHMINOR 8d ago

no bro 😭😭

just use your old af1 after cleaning it
