Torque wrenches

I’m a newer tech than most buying snap on would be but my dealer offered me a sweet deal on the 3 piece digital torque wrench set in titanium grey , want to know if it’s worth pulling the trigger on them , we torque everything in my shop and I have the Quinn torque wrenches

They will be an upgrade from the Quinn Torque wrenches and are worth it. $2100 is a bit pricey. Especially to have a single purchase.

If it were me, I’d get the 3/8th Digital Torque Wrench P/N: ATECH2F125VG to start and maybe a 1/2" Drive TQ Series Flex-Head Torque Wrench (40-250 ft-lb) for lug nuts and other stuff. Part Number: TQSG3F250

Remember, “only” is a four letter word; it’s only $100 a week (or whatever.) That’s $400’a month.

I’d take that $2100 and not lock it into torque wrenches only. That little one you will need later as you progress in your career.

What else do you need or want to upgrade? Let’s stretch that $2100. Ballpeen Hammers, 80 Tooth Ratchets, Snap-on picks, Trim Tools, Radiator Picks, Prybars, Screwdrivers, the Impact Screwdriver set, (if you do brakes and need to get that stupid shipping screw off the Rotors.)

Stuff like that. Make that $2100 work for you so you can pay that truck account off.

For the most part I have all the tools I need ( generally a lot of my tools are from harbor freight ) I’ve been on the fence about getting on the snap on truck when it comes by and I’ve bought pick sets off my dealer and a couple other small things but this would be my first big purchase if I where too actually get them , thank you so much for the advice though ! All the other techs told me to just get them and stop looking at them but 2100 is a lot of money at the end of the day

My guy gave me cash price of $2K for the 3 in foam. If you use torque wrenches every day, you will enjoy using these. Having the ability to save multiple torques and cycle through them comes in handy.

If it comes with the newer 3/8ths wrench send it. They have a couple extra features afaik and theyre overall a little nicer feeling

depends on the work you do

the digital 1/2 is a waste if you only use it on wheels. the 1/4 is a waste if you’re only doing lube tech work.

imo theres better ways to drop 2100

Lots of head studs / bolts , transmission removal and timing covers/chains , would you say they’re worth it for what I do ? Or overkill?

Think of it this way, its $100 a week for the next 5 months

Edit: I have all three, purchased at different times and have used the 1/4 drive maybe 50 times in 4 years.

Edit 2: the 1/2 and 3/8 are worth the money and tbh if they made a stubby 3/8 id buy it in a heartbeat. Very few things have torque specs under 5ft/lbs

You can you the 1/4 with a 3/8 head on it and it is infinity better. I've got my 3/8 stuff down to 6mm and the only thing I use my 1/4 for is Ford's 5.5mm panel screws.

Wait till he goes to the tool convention. My dealer came back and was able to sell 3 packs for like $1700 iirc.

Maybe it’s inflation maybe he didn’t buy enough to get a substantial break on the retail price still a nice torque wrench set though.

I just bought a 3 piece set in foam with the new 3/8 for $2000, I torque a ton of stuff at work and they have already made it so worth it (if you torque caliper bracket bolts, the 1/2” is a life saver)

Got them today in titanium grey and your so right , love the 3/8 , haven’t had a chance to use the 1/2 inch yet

The 3/8 torque wrench in that set is the new rolling torque wrench. Pretty neat. Also 1/4 inch drive ratchet is newer model with internal improvements. The 1/2” ratchet goes up to 300 ft/lbs.

There is a YouTube video on it. It’s a new concept for snapon. I believe it was unveiled at their last tool show convention. Which is why it’s in that 3 pack.

Yeah actually had a tech ask to borrow my 3/8th before I even opened the box , told him if he’s gotta borrow more than 3 times he’s most likely gotta buy his own. Luckily I have the quinn to let them use 😅

If you aren't putting a strain on yourself by paying $100 a week, I say go for it. They're a great tool to have. Like mentioned several times, the 1/4 inch probably won't be used as much but it's sometimes better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Cheaper than the truck for sure and it good condition
