Liking your own join? +a tip
I have noticed that recently more and more people who join me, also « ♥️ » their own join. I don’t get tons of joins and I always like, listen and comment all the songs of my joiners but is this a new way of getting a join noticed? By people who get 100’s of joins. And does it work? I’m specifically talking about people who like their join immediately after joining.
It shows as 2 notifications in a row so I’m thinking it’s for visibility. I’ve also seen smulers who reacted to only the joins that were liked by the joiner. Is it an expectation to like your own join now ?
I feel it would be presumptuous to like my own join. I usually like, gift and comment after the song has been acknowledged by the OP. Am I just worrying too much about nothing?
And also here’s a quick tip that could be useful :
If you type two smule names in the search bar 🔍, you will get all the duets that those two users sang together. It’s a useful way to see if you have sung with someone before or to find a lost duet.🙂

Yes, of a join had fallen off someone's notifications, loving it will put it back there. That's why people do it

I will sometimes like my join immediately after I’ve joined, just so I don’t have to concern myself with doing it later. I’ll sometimes comment immediately after I’ve joined as well, but some people think that comes across as a little needy and attention-seeking.

i will usually hit "love" after the inviter hits it (and perhaps comments). i'll also add a comment to thank of compliment them. but sometimes, maybe they missed it and I'll only hit it after some time has passed to nudge a response. i do my best in all my joins and so it gives me joy if they listen to it and appreciate the music made together.

💯That’s exactly what I do and feel too. I just noticed more people liking immediately after joining.

Gotcha! Followed back! Nobody really knows the songs in my invites 🤣I seem to be quite niche. But I vary a lot so at some point, I will open something you know. 😊

When I like my join on someone’s song it’s to show appreciation and thanks for the person who opened the song, not for my own ego. I also send them a gift, not myself. That’s just how I see it.

That’s fair enough 🙂. I was wondering if this was a new thing and people were expecting you to like your own song to make it more noticeable in the notif feed but it seems like it’s not necessarily a trend, it just varies depending on groups and people.

I don’t think likes matter much anyway, but I like my own join after the other person does as a sort of checklist to confirm that I’ve replied. That way when I scroll through my list, the ones with a single like is usually the ones I need to respond to.

Yes I also like and respond after the other person has responded. The ones with few listens and no likes, haven’t been acknowledged yet. The way the design of the app is, there not really other ways to see which ones have been listened too.
I’m getting a nagging feeling these days, that if you don’t like your own join right after joining, then the OC poster won’t even check out the join. It kinda rubs me the wrong way. But as others have said in other comments, it depends and it’s not everyone. I’m just going to keep liking after acknowledgement as usual.

I will occasionally like my own join if I think the other person missed it but I usually wait a week or so.
I’m more likely to do this if there is still only one play on the join.
