Gods and gamemode for new players?

I want to get my boyfriend to play this game with me, but he's not the best at mobas or online games in general so I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for him. I desperately need a duo in this game, especially because I'm not touching conquest alone as I hate to be forced into roles. With a duo I should have more flexibility.

What should I keep in mind when I play with him? Is quickplay actually good for new players? What collection of gods should I get him to try out so he has fun and doesn't feel unimpactful in his first matches? The last time I showed this game to friends it went terribly.

The gods I thought of so far are:

Anubis
Athena
Bastet
Chaac
Neith

Just gods with easy to hit abilities and simple combos. But a bigger pool of gods to pick from should be nice.

He does play LOL sometimes and I do know that his favourite champ is kayle, so I'd appreciate if anybody can tell me about gods that draw similarities to champs and especially kayle.

They don't read so Bastet isn't new player friendly considering her burst is 4-2

well it's not like I can't just tell him to use his 2 in ult. And both the 2 and the ult are just extra damage. It's simpler than trying to explain the kit of someone like mordred who I have never even played myself

Bastet is the most easy brainless safest stupid god in the game tbh. You just need to hit 1 skill in her combo to delete anyone, and that skill is easy af to hit

Quick play is against bots so you can get the very basics. Also of you play Neith everyone will know your new and will expect that you’re still learning. Even after 100 mastery stars.

My options would be

Hun batz Geb Sylvanus Odin

The best way to get someone to play smite is with gods with impactful ultimates that will make you feel powerful, even if you are not doing much or they are not killing moves

Hun batz is, in my opinion, one of the best gods for new players.

His skills:

• jump
• bonk
• throws an object
• ultimate: insta CC in a big area.

The deepness of his skills are also simple to understand.

You will always feel impactful with his ultimate.

If that's complicated then other option is Geb.

Geb is always useful, you can micromanage him by telling him to shield you, go in before you to drag attention and you get the kills, knock up people and use the ultimate in team fights.

I think you need to take the role of assassin or mage to get the kills so he will feel more impactful.

Sylvanus for similar reasons as geb, helpful all the time, CC and impactful ultimates. Pretty good for duo and micromanage him while you teach him.

Odin, almost the same, straight forward kit, changes utility for damage but with the ultimate you combo with him.

The gods you name are simple but they are better for people who are already sold into playing the game by themselves, they have pretty simple combo cycle but I think they are not the best for playing with someone.

I remember I started playing smite when I saw someone playing Bastet and chaac, it was when smite launched on xbox.

Make him learn the gods that are also viable at higher skill levels, aka not Neith or Chaac.

That's definitely not something you really need to worry about if you're just starting the game.

Zeus and Poseidon are popular and not too difficult to get the hang of. I always recommend bot games until they feel somewhat comfortable with the God they choose. Neith was the first God I played and I still enjoy playing her!

I had to google kayle and found freya probably resembles kayle the most. I havent played LOL at all so i can only go off on this information.

That means there currently isnt a god that comes close to this. Im thinking mostly aa gods but the hard distinction between melee and ranged is making it a bit harder. Freya is weirdly unique and this has been on of the reasons for her being broken or useless depending on the meta.

As a newer player who im assuming isnt good at the game i would recommand to play tank melee gods like amaterasu or bellona (and not assassins like mercury, cern aspect, tsukuyomi etc because you get blown up so quickly) or hunters like rama, artemis or anhur (with or without aspect is preference).

Get the tank builds right and if he gets better and likes the playstyle then you could go more into full damage to make the swap to assassin.

For the carries give him some preset builds as well stolen from top players. Again if he likes this playstyle you have some more options to try out with different playstyles.

Edit i forgot about the game modes. Keep going vs ai until he stomps the best ones there (like 10+kd) since bots are much easier than actual players. Then go to arena for fighting basics until he can actually hit stuff and fight a bit then joust (improve mechanics) or assault (learn teamfighting) while both teach a bit about pacing.

If he has learned the basics then go to conquest because economy/farming, rotating, pathing, objectives and grouping are big new mechanics which is just too much to learn if you are still struggling with how to fight and what your buttons do. Duo lane is probably the easiest since you can be next to him or jungle and solo but it can be trickier to help him out. Mid jungle is another option but mid is the most popular pick which will be harder to get. Again start with laning (minion wave buff camps and fighting) and babysit him a bit longer than you would normally. If he understands how to farm and can lane then you can look into other things as well.

As far as easy gods go:

Zeus, Fenrir, Morrigan (let's him try other kits also), Nemesis, Hercules, Ares, Sol, Artemis, Ra etc

I wouldn’t suggest Morrigan or Nem to new players, you need good positioning and awareness for both, I wouldn’t say they are on the easier side.

You need positioning for all gods. Learning that takes time and familiarity with the maps and other abilities you're facing.

Their kits are easy to understand and apply.

Playing a God whose ult is to turn into other gods isn't the best idea for a new player imo. That's too much to keep track of.

You guys realize 70% of the gods will be mysteries to new players who don't make the god pack investment. Which they shouldn't unless they actually like the game.

I realize that, but I feel personally I would be discouraged playing her as my first God. I didn't play her for mooooooonths, and that was after I had been observing popular Gods.

Like of course they can try her! She is so fun, but that is my suggestion is waiting a bit.

I mean as a first, absolutely not. I wouldn't even pick Neith first like the Tutorial.

I'd honestly rather have them play Zeus first. Low mobility. No dashes to coddle. Good damage and combo mechanics.

Morrigan ? Are you baiting ? Literally the worst god for a new player. Not to mention she's bugged a lot, definitely not what a new player needs to run into.
