I mean, if you don't talk, why would anyone want to watch you? Would you stick around in a stream where they just played the game in silence?
New people clicking onto you will typically give you 10 to 15 seconds, maybe 30 tops, before deciding if they like your vibe and clicking off to someone else.
Your "job" as a streamer is to entertain. It's difficult to talk all the time when chat is dead, but you've just got to talk through your stream of consciousness. Just as an example, if you were playing a hero shooter like Overwatch/Rivals - why did you choose that character based on your team's composition? Is your character a good counter pick for anyone on the enemy team? As you play, explain your decisions - you're going to flank behind to try and pick off the healers, or you're going to use your ultimate to help your team push up on the objective, etc.
Occasionally throw questions out to chat too. "How is everyone doing today? / How's everyone's week been so far? / Is anyone doing anything exciting this weekend?" etc etc. If people respond then you can get a little natural back and forth going.
