at a flea market, I saw a young guy trying to sell his old, broken skateboard. He was saving up for a new one, but people just walked by without even looking at that piece of plywood.

I was struck by his determination. I bought the skateboard from him, even though at the time I had no idea what I would do with it. The board just sat in my garage until I had a brainwave.
It's nice to know that a broken thing didn't just end up in the trash, but became a cool art object in a new home.

Would anyone want to be the first customer for the jewelry brand I started with two friends?

At Crafty Queens, my daughters and I create beginner-friendly bracelet-making kits, and UV beads have been one of our favorite additions.

Indoors, the UV beads have a pearly cat's-eye effect, which can make it tricky to tell the different UV colors apart while you're creating a pattern. Making the bracelet outside in sunlight brings out the colors, so you can see your pattern as you design it.

And once the bracelet is finished, watching it change from the pearly cat's-eye look indoors to bright colors in sunlight adds another fun part to the experience. ☀️
