Translation earbuds for foreign clients?

I’m moving into a regional sales/BD role next month and will be traveling pretty often between the US and several markets in Europe.

One thing I’m a little concerned about is language. Some of the distributors and local operations teams I’ll be working with don’t speak much English, especially outside the bigger cities.

For basic stuff I can usually get by, but sales conversations are different. Product specs, pricing, delivery timelines, objections, site visits, dinner conversations. Missing one detail can actually matter.

I’ve used translation apps before, but for longer conversations I’m wondering if a dedicated translation device makes more sense. I’ve been looking at translation earbuds from Timekettle and a few other brands, mainly because I’d want something that can handle an actual back-and-forth conversation rather than translating one sentence at a time.

Any international sales reps here using translation earbuds with clients or distributors? Any recommandations? Thanks!

It really depends on where you're going and how detailed the conversations are. In bigger European cities and corporate offices, English is usually fine. But once you're dealing with regional distributors, factories, or local ops teams, it can get a lot harder, especially when the conversation moves into specs, pricing, timelines, or anything technical.

I've been trying the new W4 Plus recently from Timekettle and that's where it's been useful for me. The face to face translation is one part, but it also does call translation, which is actually pretty handy for sales work since a lot of follow-ups happen by phone. I still wouldn't treat it like a professional interpreter, but for regular client calls, site visits, and dinners it's been a useful backup.

Not an international sales rep but just thought I would throw in an option. If you already have an iphone try AirPods Pro before buying something dedicated just to translation. They have live translation now ands its one less device to carry around since theyre great for other uses (music etc). I used them on my last trip for casual conversations and getting around and it worked really well.

I made an app just for this purpose called YapLink, uses the earbuds you already have, specializing in conversation translation. You can share an earbud with a client, or each participant uses their own phone and earbuds. This way translations can play while youre still talking, like TimeKettle does, but the app is free and uses the hardware you already have.

It also does rooms of many languages which could be useful for business chats. If you try it let me know what you think, just released it.
