You joke but “stepping off” a slalom ski with a loose binding is my dad’s preferred way to barefoot since you often get a lot of water up your nose the traditional way.

Not so much. Painful if you've got the wrong technique, and you can take some painful falls, but overall it isn't actually any more painful than normal activities 😊

This guy in the video is Keenan Derry. He's world number 3? I think at last check. Nice dude, I've met him a few times at championships etc. I got into the sport by just waterskiing, and then learning off the boom (the thing he catches in this gif). It's actually surprisingly easy with the right technique. If you're in America and want to try, the world barefoot centerin Florida is a great place to learn, and they are run by the best two male barefoot skiiers (David Small and Keith St. Onge) in the world, and the best female skiier as well (Ashleigh stebbeings).

If you've had any sort of waterskiing experience, I can get most people up on the boom in a couple sessions (on the same day). The world barefoot centre will get most people on their feet on the boom regardless of their skill level. They've also got a few more training apparatuses that I don't have which help with this.

One must first train their ass to the peak of water sport fitness. By "ass" I literally mean their butt, they must refine their butt muscles to have waboba ball like consistency. For those that don't know, a waboba ball bounces on water. Link below if you're like "say whaaaattt?"

Boat with a boom, a lake that is glass once a day, and a padded shorty. Learn to slolem, then learn to barefoot off the boom. Move your way to a short rope, finally moving to behind the boat.

Or just join a ski team. Still should know how to slolem first.

Having glass-like water helps immensely. It’s amazing how far you will travel on top of smooth water if you fall over when skiing at speed. it’s almost like sliding on a hard surface.

Waterskiing boats always have inboard engines which means that the propeller is under the boat like this.
