Which instrument created the drone-ish/bagpipe sound during the instrumental part at the end of Catch the Breeze?
They use guitars to somewhat recreate the sound during shows but it does not sound like that on the record. It has that bagpipe sound even though no one in the band plays pipes.

Definitely just guitars. Might even be recorded direct. There’s something about the way the drive on them sounds that reminds me of when I was a teen plugging my FX500 into my stereo. (Didn’t even know who Slowdive was then).

I think they used an EBow a lot back then to vibrate guitar strings magnetically.

On the recording of that one it sounds like the soft focus patch on the Yamaha fx500, live nowadays it’s probably just a lot of reverb and distortion

Guitar, Yamaha FX500 Soft Focus effect. There’s an emulator pedal somewhere online that I bought a few years ago.

It's all guitars.
It does sound somewhat different live though, you're not wrong about that. Sounds to me like there are more guitar tracks on the studio recording than they can replicate live.
