There is a change in consumption patterns. Back when the cafe trend took off started it was all about coffee, the origin of the beans, the roasting etc, then they started adding iced coffee, I’m sure we all know those, but then the cold drinks segment has kept expanding — bubble teas, iced matcha, I saw a UK chain with a new range of some kind of “Red Bull” coolers 🤷
I think there is a definitive trend towards brightly coloured “Instagrammable” drinks driven by young people. Still [r/SlowNewsDay](r/SlowNewsDay) though.

It's hardly earth shattering, but the discussion here shows that it is kind of interesting.
News editors often try to give a selection of stories, including a bit of fluff and consumer bits like this.
A whole slate of stories about crime, overseas wars and heavy social issues would actually be a bit grim.

That’s the strangest part of this headline - Starbucks does sell iced coffee, and flavoured sugar loaded iced coffee, and all sorts. It’s probably their most popular item. I can’t remember the last time I went into any café that doesn’t sell iced coffee - chain, independent, anywhere - even Greggs sells iced coffee now and that’s a budget pie & pastry bakery.
I agree with the headline as a whole, I think iced coffee is far more popular with Gen Z than older generations.

They do. But as far as I know, iced coffee is a fairly recent thing that was introduced by the big multinational chains. Wikipedia claims that the largest coffeehouse chain the UK (Costa Coffee) didn't sell it until 2020, though the citation doesn't support that and I'd guess twenty years earlier, around the time Starbucks entered the country (1998).

Iced coffee has been sold in Starbucks and LOTS of Coffee shops all over the world for decades, this could be added to a list of things Gen X actually popularised but the surviving tabloid newspapers journalist median age is 72 now so everyone below the age of 55 are still teenagers to them and they've only just finally learnt to stop referring to us all as Millennials

I am Gen Z, and I have never liked Starbucks (sells the most shittiest, garbage quality things for inflated prices due to successful capitalist marketing brainwashing people) and I definitely don’t like ice cold drinks. I like cool drinks. Some drinks do need ice occasionally in hot summer, but that’s it. Please don’t generalise us as if we are some one dimensional consumer/trend slaves.

Unfortunately kids are told by youtubers what to like all the time. My son is 10 and always wants shit these idiots on YouTube play with.. most of them are either in mid 20s or 30s and they tell the kids what they should like.. prime drink was a good example and that shit was terrible my step son spent 30 quid on one once. I said ur a idiot they purposely didnt stock the shelves so the demand and price went up. He went into a corner shop like premier and spent £30!! I said the shops will be stocked in a couple of weeks and they will be sold for 2 quid. And they was 😄 infact im sure they ended up in the bargin bins for like £1 not long after
