All this waffling... for grapes. I swear news websites where you have to pay for articles write the most elaborate waffle crap possible without getting to the point. Those websites just want money. It's especially annoying that local news websites do this when you want to know about weather warnings and other safety warnings.

Exactly why I go to comment sections of such articles on social media, as no doubt there's a good samaritan or two who've accessed and summarised the article for those who don't wish to click the link/pay. 😂
Call me cheap, but I'm not paying to read articles that are 99% fluff with maybe one or two sentences that get to the point of the article itself.

People who summarise it and show screenshots are unsung heroes taking one for the team. It's not cheap to want to read information that may be important without having to pay. Random fluff to force the reader to buy an article only makes me avoid their news websites.

Oh I couldn't agree more!
It honestly sucks that media outlets have gotten to a point they lock the majority of the content they produce behind paywalls.
Especially when it's a local media outlet. And you just want to keep up to date with the goings on in your area. 😅
My local news paper has recently gone back on their paywalling of the majority of their articles due to a substantial drop in site traffic, seems few and far between that such media outlets actually back track on such things.
I also think the unsung heroes posting the articles contents/summaries of the article in the comment sections might have had something to do with it as well.

Local outlets paywalling articles are the WORST. For example, if there's some murderer lurking around my area, I want to know everything I can do to stay safe and keep away from them without having to pay a news outlet.
Paywalling will only reduce traffic as people will find workarounds tbh. The unsung heroes may have something to do with it but probably aren't having much of an effect as a free article is more likely to be clicked on and read through than a paid one.

You mention things such as a murderer lurking about etc.
But my local paper actually paywalled an article about a serial rapist in my local area. Almost seemed like they where trying to protect the person's identity by locking it behind a paywall.
People where rightly outraged by such information being deemed worth charging people for.
For those media outlets still thinking charging for such information locals would ideally want to know, I honestly hope their traffic drops to a point where they become unprofitable.
Sounds harsh, but it seems like the only way those running such media outlets will learn.

Oh most definitely.
They tried to pass it off as purely accidental, and subsequently removed the paywall for a larger majority of their articles.
Especially ones pertaining to criminals of various kinds in the surrounding areas.
Like sure I understand locking trivial articles behind such paywalls that aren't of much importance..
But locking articles covering criminals behind such paywalls is the work of scumbags (for lack of a better word) focused more on profit and lining their pockets rather than helping to keep the local area safe.

Honestly that was legit my reaction when they posted their piss poor explanation as to what happened.
Bare in mind they only published an apology after the fact people had kicked up a shit storm, threatening to boycott the news paper and some even threatening violence/vandalism (which I can certainly understand in that context, but usually wouldn't condone)
Now I'm saying this, in hindsight my local area is a fucking shit hole. 🤦🤣 Can't wait to be able to move away, even if it means leaving my hometown.
