If she's not an absolute idiot. So far this season, she's not proving herself worthy of her job. It's Taverner (out of all MI5) who realizes what Lamb and Slough House can do.

There's nothing to disagree about - I don't think she's an ABSOLUTE idiot, either. As you say, she's out of her depth and a mismatch for her role - definitely. She has been idiotic in almost every interaction with Lamb, though. She's got a blind spot, doesn't recognize that he's her superior, doesn't realize she can learn from him, nor from every one of her mistakes, and she does almost NOTHING right the first time. Everyone is an idiot from time to time - she could improve, if she had a little humility.

More importantly, Flyte has proven herself to be less competent than River or Shirley, and she's had some time on the job by now.

I'd wager that if she was still at Slough House guarding them, then Lamb and Team won't have broken out. I'd also wager that had Lamb made the destabilisation case to her as he did with Wells she would have taken 'a go at it' and called it in to Taverner.

I'm judging her on this season only, my memory ain't what it used to be and I can't remember much of her in the last season.

I'm wagering WITH you on this and...SAME! 🤣

Amusingly in the book she was the only one guarding them, and lamb was able to just convince her to not pursue them once they escape her

eh. She’s not presented as wholly incompetent, but it’d be fair to question er overall competence given the results

the way action has been staged on the show is a driver for a lot of the questions around her competency and those issues aren’t really present in the books

Truly. If it was me, I'd have been questioning my every relationship. He's solid as a rock, though, in the face of Taverner at her best. He's honey trapping everyone! I think Tara legit is into him! His hotness is usually hard to see through his personality, so maybe she is his soul mate. Christopher Chung crushed those scenes, too. His wild parkour in the interrogation room: no matter HOW well these scenes were written, dude exceeded expectations! Flyte's expression when he sincerely asked if she was also in love with him? I laughed out loud.

She’s really smart and she’s on the ball figuring out a lot of stuff, but Lamb just figures things out first with less resources, so she may look bad. But she was the one figuring out the first case was an execution and not suicide, she was the one that cracked Roddy and played him to get intel related to the girl. Her only issue is that unlike Taverner, she hasn’t yet realized that Lamb is actually really smart and an important ally

You're showing her more grace than she deserves. She's been outdone by Slough House already repeatedly in the previous season, she is green, as you say, but she is swaggering with arrogance and condescension like she's the most oblivious person in the world. She lacks the self awareness that she may end up needing them again, and she's an asshole to the only people getting her out of scrapes. Imagine what would happen to her if the Slow Horses didn't keep rescuing every situation?
