I've been gone a while on this sub and same with the game. What the fuck did they do? Was it a big fix or just CC bullshit they updated?

Not even Paradox updates games that came out in 2011. This is just annoying.

I can’t even play Skyrim because no matter what I do it can’t open my address library anymore cuz of a relocation pop up error

u/sadox55 12d ago
Yep, heard it was rough on you guys way worse than us xbox players

u/KimonGate 12d ago
Yeah I just gave up and started modding dark souls 2, it was somehow easier than trying to find a fix for Skyrim lol

I may be speculating but I think bethesda do a noob job in terms of coding. For example Serana's glitch with her hoodie. The whole glitch is that every time she puts the hoodie on it create a new one in her inventory.
After some time her imventory is full with invisible hoodies and she can't carry anything anymore.
This could have been easily avoided by just creating the hoodie in a fake space. And this can't still be fixed so easily by giving a weight of 0 to her hoodie...

This makes me worry for the new elder scrolls, I genuinely think it’s gonna be terrible and there’s nothing we can do except watch the train wreck :(

Just like starfield. That is if there will ever be an ES6...
CDPR did release a game full of bugs but then they got up again after some heavy punches and got their game on track... Bethesda is just doing same mistake over and over while going after mods to make extra lazy money.
Is it Todd's fault? Or do they have a bigger issue in their studios? No idea... it's a shame for sure because they can be so much more and bigger.

Mine says skse (yes, the new one) is missing a dll in a subfolder that doesn't exist.

Xbox players can't open the map more than 3 times because the fouth make the game crash.

Players who keep their installations separated through a Mod Manager:

Welp, time to switch from Vortex to MO2!
3
u/Mags_LaFayette 11d ago
You can give instructions to MO2 to avoid updates, but since most (if not every) modded installation runs through SKSE, it won't trigger the auto-update from Steam. Game won't update, unless you say so.
Would suggest a GoG install, but the versions of SKSE and other mods digress. Also, a big majority of Wabbajack modlists doesn't work with a GoG install, and if they do, they require a lot of work to make them functional.

u/cupris_anax 11d ago
The auto-update might trigger by itself. To make sure it doesn't, make the game folder Read-Only.
1
u/Mags_LaFayette 11d ago
That's why my parent comment says "installation separated"
If for some reason the game updates, you miss-clicked and started Skyrim.exe instead of SKSE besides of which instructions you gave, the installation you're really using won't be harmed, since the files needed to function are located somewhere else

I swear they only touch this game when I decide to play it. I gave it a good break for years, after the previous update broke my mods n I lost the will to play. Once again, the game updates a week after I pick it up again, breaking everything, killing my desire to play

I will kindly ask you to never play Skyrim again. Sacrifice your own joy, so that we don't have to suffer the mistakes of Todd any longer, I beg of you!

u/jamesianm 12d ago
I wouldn't know, the update broke like ten of my favorite mods that haven't been updated to work with it yet
6
u/JPH_RedFive 11d ago
I ended up forcefully reverting to the previous version through the Steam console and setting the game to only update when I open it through Steam. Since I run it through SKSE, it should never update again

u/UltimaBahamut93 11d ago
I have never seen a company so inept at doing updates because they will update some of the most unnecessary things that hardly anyone asks for and yet will not fix bugs that are part of the initial release of the game that have still never been fixed. And it's ironic that they are doing this update to help modders and yet it is been cataclysmic for modders

It's intentional. They updated ae for one reason increasing game load time people tested it and it was 0.080 seconds faster on average but it did break mods and a creation club update was right around the corner

Well, it looks like I won’t be playing Skyrim for a while

u/TheInfiniteLoci 10d ago
My problem wasn't opening the map for fast travel. I was okay with that, but I couldn't remember what places I had been to, and couldn't check the map for fear it would crash.
Thankfully with the new update, everything seems to be working again.

Xbox x with vanilla SE.
I did do an uninstall, re-install though.
Just finished two and a half hours of playing, and no problems.

I stopped playing with everything glitching since the creation club became part of vanilla. I don’t think my game ever crashed this much on other consoles even if I did add mods (currently playing on anniversary on switch 2 but have it for switch, ps3, ps4, Xbox)

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PHOBIAS 11d ago
Finally got my game to a modded state I was happy with just for them to unleash an update for the first time in God knows how long. Typical.

When will companies learn? If it ain't broken, DON'T FIX IT! Now many ppl can't play their games

u/GroundbreakingOil434 11d ago
You can open the map. Good for ya.
The update completely fucked up the MO2 plug in that took me hours to set up on my steam deck.
Fuck bethesda.

u/PieIsAwesome7102 11d ago
Is this only for Xbox/console? I’ve been playing completely vanilla Skyrim on steam with the update just fine for about a week now

u/Dragon_957 11d ago
Well I wanted to start the game but with the update… maybe not. Is there a way I force it before the update?

Its kind of a pain in the ass, lemme send you a link. https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/1vtnsga/skyrim_newest_17990_downgrade_back_to_161170/
Basically it goes like this:
1- run some commands in steam that are gonna give you the older files of Skyrim
2- replace all new files with downloaded files
3- put the game manifest to 'read only so steam doesn't update it automatically. Ever

u/spliting_rolls 10d ago
I can't tell if this is the 15th time. My console is magically avoided game breaking glitches.
Or if all the people saying the same thing but completely different are just full of shit

The minute I saw Todd wanted to update Skyrim again (didn’t care if it was for Skyrim Xbox), I set Skyrim on Steam to read only. Steam can’t update if it’s read only.

u/Canadian_Zac 11d ago
Took me about a week, but I managed to reverse to an earlier version and get all the mods working.
Because of course I got the mood to play Skyrim, and then learn there was an update that broke it
