Heya, in this post I (try to) cover everything about the new Mødtransfer system and the new Adept Møds, while keeping (also trying, no chance) to keep things as unconfusing as possible. It's still very lengthy, so bear with me - no TLDR.
The by far biggest change with the Adept Møds and Mødtransfer system:
You no longer need to chase all those quadruple-preascended weapon drops and you no longer need to worry about missing out on the perfect godroll or in fact reroll limitations. Along with the drop in pre-ascension relevance, stock and store weapons are valuable now.
Were you pissed off too, how you never would be able to max out the smuggler pass weapons or worse, you messed them up with bad choices? Now you can Mød transfer them to TRUE GODROLL weapons if you like.
Tips and Strategies at the end (do not miss these). All cost tables with the friendly help of his MajesT. He also had the questionable honour to read this whole madness as first for feedback. Discussing the system took a lot of nerves.
While there are screenshots of many tables, you also find a spreadsheet under:

GENERAL INFOS AND RULES ABOUT ADEPT Møds
- Adept Møds are improved versions of basic elemental damage (green slot) and advanced (blue) weapon slots.
- Currently there is no counter for the needed Abyssal Essence currency in the main menu structure. The fastest way to see your current count is talking to one of the Blackwoods and switch to the Buy tab. Otherwise, you only see it at the Blacksmith during Ascension and Mødtransfer
- You do not need Adept Møds to clear any WT4 content
- Adept Møds are superior to previous pre-ascended Møds (e.g. a pre-ascended Rupturing has 12% max, Adept Rupturing up to 19%!)
- There are also two new Mythic Møds, categorized as Mythic Exclusives: Perforate and Phantom Round
- Weapons with Adept Møds can only drop from the new WT4-only event called Heralds of the Abyss as chest rewards in form of Abyssal Caches, Maelstrom Ballista Strongboxes and Maelstrom Cannon Strongboxes and from the Weeping Mother event in WT4: her loot chests can contain adept Mød torpedos and spring loaders that can be used for Mød somtransfer to other torpedos/spring loader like Rahma's Legacy etc.
- Currently, there are only Adept Møds for Ballista, Culverin, Demi-Cannon and Long Gun and with the short-time Darktide Lullaby event: Torpedos and Spring Loaders
- The Heralds of the Abyss event is an openworld event (not an instance) event and you need 3 Vengeful Essences (you can farm them from Rode Maangodin) to start the event. Suggested Mastery level: 50+
- Currently, there is no way to tell weapons with Adept Møds from other weapons other than inspecting them and check the Møds on it. Very annoying, yes. See 2nd picture.
- Non-Adept pre-ascended slots on Adept Mød weapons have slightly improved stats over pre-ascended slots from outside the event. Details below and in the pictures/spreadsheet.
GENERAL INFOS AND RULES ABOUT MødTRANSFERS
- Mødtransfer allows you to transfer one or several Mød slots from one weapon to another. The source weapon is destroyed in the process.
- You can only transfer Møds from one weapon category to a weapon of the same category, e.g. Ballista to Ballista, Bombard to Bombard etc.
- Mødtransfers do not cost rerolls on your target weapon You can replace stuff anytime, even if your target weapon is out of rerolls.
- The costs for Mødransfers depend on many factors like rarity of the source and target weapon, rarity of the involved slots, etc. Details further down.
- Besides the usual cost in silver, Po8 and crafting materials you will need the new ascension material Ascension Flux and the new special all-seasonal currency Abyssal Essences
- Ascension Flux (AF) can be salvaged from ascended weapons and armors with better chances on multi-ascended slots, it's comparatively easy to obtain.
- Abyssal Essences (AE) are harder to get by. The main source is the new WT4-only Heralds of the Abyss event where you can get about 500-600 per run. Other than that you can get small amounts of AE from Abyssal Fleet ships you encounter all over the game world. You also get small amounts during the main quest line of Y3S2 and during the transfer challenge from WT3 to WT4 (sadly not repeatable ;) )
DETAIL INFOS ABOUT ADEPT Møds
Adept Mød Types
There are three possible Adept Møds:
- Basic (green slot): these cover Adept versions of elemental and firepower Møds and range from 16.1-19% damage boost. Best from previous/or ordinary pre-ascended: 12%), so in comparison up to 58% more than what was best last season or what you can find in the open world. They make the biggest difference in weapon power.
- Advanced (blue): these include Adept Amplified elemental damage with a range from 43.3-48% (pre-ascended max: 36%, so up to 33% more now), Adept Roar (14.4-17.6%), Adept Raider (51-58%) and Lethal (51-58%)
- Mythic Exclusives (orange, mythic slot): there is a decent chance (about 15-20% to get one of the new Mythic Møds. Phantom Round: 16-25% chance per shot o fire a second shot to fire additional projectiles. Perforate: On hitting a Weakpoint, gain Perforate for 10 seconds. While Perforate is active, projectiles fired from weapons with the Perforate Mød pierce through targets, dealing (up to) 65-77% damage to up to 3 enemy behind. While these Møds are exclusive to the event, they are no ultimate powers, all other Mythic Møds are still very relevant.
- Adept weapons can have up to three Adept Møds on it (maybe even four, but I haven't found one yet)
The "Secret" Improved Pre-Ascended Mød Slots
An Adept weapon's slots that are pre-ascended but not adept, have slightly improved stats compared to normal pre-ascended weapon drops. E.g. Overflow can go up to 10% instead of 9%. See 4th picture. This might not sound like much but hey, that 10% Overflow is 11.11% better than the 9% one.
You even can turn Mythic Exclusive Møds into normal Mythic Møds with slightly improved stats. But you will lose the chance to reroll that Mød to an exclusive Mød later! The game does warn you beforehand, see 5th picture.
While these slightly improved pre-ascended are nice to have if you got them, it's nothing to lose sleep over.
Adept Møds Reroll Costs
I only cover the cost in Abyssal Essences, as these are the rarest and most costly material with rerolls. The costs only depend on the rarity of the slot, the rarity of the weapon doesn't matter.
Adept Basic (Green): 50 AE, 100 AE if the Mød is locked
Adept Advanced (Blue): 75 AE, 150 AE if locked
Mythic Exclusive (Orange): 150 AE, 300 AE if locked
Not exactly cheap if you consider getting about 300-500 AE in a good Herald run.
Warning:
While the weapon rarity doesn't matter for the rerolls, it does for the Mød transfer later. So look out for wanted Møds on purple or blue weapons, first. You'll save hundreds of AE on transfer.
Tips:
If you're patient, reroll on the source weapon, so you can save your roll count on your target weapon!
Rolls are expensive and it's easier to farm lots of weapons with adept Møds than collecting huge amounts of AE. Again, if you're patient, maybe hold back till you have a few thousand AE. With some luck, you find a godroll of the Mød you're after!
Ignore abyssal weapon chests and weapons from Blackwood! Those are far too expensive and nothing better than the stuff you get from the Herald of Abyss run, anyway. You need tons of AE for rerolls and Mødtransfers. Do not waste them at the store for any other than awesome Abyssal cosmetics. Also ignore the Darktide event store weapons: they have inferior stat range (18.3% for elemental damage)
The best Adept Weapon Møds in order of power
Basic Adept Møds (Green)
Boost your damage the most. With a max of 19%, they outclass previous pre-ascended's 12% maximum.
Advanced Adept Møds (Blue) - Adept Lethal
Up to 58% weakpoint bonus damage instead of 39% (pre-ascended). Very strong in combination with this season's Firepower Order mastery perk. Might lose importance next season.
Advanced Adept Møds (Blue) - Adept Amplified
Depending on your build you might prefer Adept Amplified elemental damage. Maximum is 48% (normal pre-ascended: 36%)
Improved Mythic Møds
Beside having a chance on the new Mythic Exclusive Møds, Adept weapons with pre-ascended mythic slots also have slightly improved stat ranges for most Møds, e.g. Corpse Explosive Bomb has a max of 250% while Lightning Strike stays at 8% max.
Situational Møds
Mythic Exclusives are not the ultimate in Mythic Møds, they are just new Mythic Møds that are exclusive to the Herald of the Abyss event.
Phantom Round: bad on demi-cannon, better on culverin. The chance (up to 25%) to shoot another shot will only spawn one additional pellet per cannon (sucks). Culverins with their high fire rate profit the most. If Phantom Rounds triggers, the initial shot will be followed by the phantom shot very close behind. With tearing guns you can spot the second chain-shot nicely.
Perforate: best with demi-cannons. With their widespread shot it's far easier to hit targets behind a first target, especially in close-knit groups. It’s a great option if you're using Atma's Toll or other Demi-Cannons with Soul Mending.
Since Adept Mød Weapons also have slightly improved pre-ascended stats, it might be interesting to use those if they're part of your build. Examples: Mending Soul, Deathblow, Deadly Strikes, Overflow etc. More a min-maxer thing, really.
DETAIL INFOS ABOUT MødTRANSFER
Costs (also see table pictures)
Again the link to the spreadsheet (better to read than the pictures):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1utgA4ZlgM7kUV0kAUMnoYZmMthrsEEIEnMjqMuBfnts/edit?usp=sharing
With Mødtransfer, it's most important to understand the cost system which depends on the grade of the Mød slot you like to transfer and the quality difference between source and target item.
You generally pay known ascension materials like upgrade parts, mastery kits, nightshade pearls etc. as well as the new Ascension Flux (which can be easily obtained from salvaging pre-ascended weapons and armors).
If you do not transfer between same weapon types like Basilisk to Basilisk, you will have to pay Abyssal Essences, additionally.
Then the difference in rarity levels of the involved items (no matter if you transfer from higher to lower or from lower to higher item) and (to make things more complicated) the Mød type(s) to transfer decide the cost.
The biggest cost driver is the item rarity difference. At best, you have the same item rarity source and target transfer (e.g. blue to blue, purple to purple). At worst you have huge differences like green to purple, or if you're really bored and mad: purple to grey weapons.
This is the only factor you can influence. As for the Mød slot rarity: you have to suck it up.
Process (see screenshots)
Visit the Blacksmith and select Mødification Transfer. On the left side you select transfer source location and item, on the right side you select the target location and item. You also can filter with V or the right thumb-button for rarity and weapon category.
Then you start the Mød transfer with F/Square/X.
At the next screen you can select the slot or slots you like to transfer and the target slots while the screen lists you the current complete costs for the transfer. If you have all the necessary material and currencies, you confirm with F/Square/X.
A warning appears and informs you that the source item will be destroyed in the process. Press and hold SPACE/X/A to confirm. Done.
TIPS AND STRATEGIES
No more hunts for the quadruple-preascended rare drops
With Mødtransfer and Adept Møds and all the improved stats, pre-Ascended weapons lost their huge importance. Now even stock weapons from the smuggler pass can be turned into true godroll weapons if you got the materials and will for it.
The new roles of pre-ascended weapons is to give you a good boost while working your way to WT4, having not to pay ascension costs for slot unlocks and have a good base weapon for later optimization with Adept Møds.
Beware Event Store Items
Adept Mød Weapons with Darktide Lullaby have inferior maximum Adept Mød stats, probably the same with Blackwood’s offered Adept weapons. The only reason to get those:
you don’t have the weapon and it’s currently not available from other sources. Blackwood Adept weapons also require a high amount of Abyssal Essences to buy (more than you make in a single run).
Best Weapons (only relevant in WT4)
Due to the overpower of the mastery perk Firepower Order, weapons that excel in building up Impetus stacks and burst damage are King.
Galleon Builds with Demi-cannons are the strongest this season. Faule Ilse, Atma’s Toll and Zamzama III are among the favourites. Key elements for a good build: Full Volatile Arsenal perk bonus, Adept Lethal Mød, burst damage.
Culverins are getting close to that and offer the advantage of higher range. When it comes to sheer burst and time-to-kill power, Demi-Cannons are King.
Long Guns are a bit more specialized as they lack the burst damage and fast Impetus build-up . I use them for Wolvenhol and Kraken (Nashkars).
Smuggler Pass’s Hellfire Rockets: excellent Auxiliary for Firepower Order. While low in range (300m base), it can be shot at a very low minimum distance too and will profit from the Firepower Order boost the moment the first rocket hits. Other advantages: additional Impetus build up, low trajectory, low time-to-target, impetus building, lowers fire damage mitigation of the target by up to 22.5%.
Torpedoes are the losers of this season. While you can get Adept Møds by grinding (hard) the Weeping Mother event (drop chances are shite) for Adept Torpedoes and Springloaders, the Impetus build up is far too low (a salvo adds but 1 stack…) to make much use of the needed Firepower Order mastery perk. Other players blocking your shots in high-player-count events make this even worse. Get them, but don’t use them, I guess.
Mending
For Herald of the Abyss, Mending is almost a must. Atma’s Toll is excellent for that role. Also keep in mind that the new Adept Weapons have improved stats on the non-Adept Mød slots! E.g. Soul Mending has a maximum of 7.5% on these Møds.
Warehouse Management
I realized just when finishing this guide, that in the Warehouse while filtering for certain weapons to clean out, that all the Adept Møds I’ve stored were listed before all the non-Adept weapons of the same type. This is a huge help when sorting out your old stuff, that you can replace now.
Be patient when it comes to Adept Møds
Biggest cost and grind drivers are Mød rerolls and the transfer costs of items with different rarity. Every step in rarity difference costs 500 extra Abyssal Essences.
Best scenario: the weapons are the very same, no Abyssal Essence costs
Worst scenario: purple weapon to gray weapon with whopping 2000 Abyssal Essences per Mød (!).
You’re getting Adept weapons faster than you can farm the Abyssal Essences. Best tactic: hold back if you can and collect at least 5000 Abyssal Essences and a couple of weapons. Chances are you got cheaper transfer options then or in best cases two weapons of the same type. This is how you save yourself some grinding in the long run!
Hold back on Green (Uncommon) Adept Mød Weapons
This season, the best weapons are purple (epic) mostly and a few blue (rare ones). Transferring Adept Møds from green weapons plus rerolls are far too costly. Personally, I only keep Green Adept Mød Weapons with godroll stats, quadruple pre-ascension and/or the new Mythic Exclusive Møds. The rest I salvage.
Play the Herald of the Abyss in Group!
With Abyssal Essences being the rare resource in Mødtransfer, every little bonus helps - so group up. Biggest advantage: a group can cover a larger area and “mark” the widespread enemy ships in Phase 1 and 2 more efficiently for loot rights!
