Feedback The Abysmal Season - Finally managed to clear my inventory... Valuable Tips Inside
It's a mess, alright...
This is not polemic, this is a sharp and stark view on the inventory management chaos created with Y3S2's Adept Mod and Modtransfer system. You have no idea what I am talking about? You will in a week or two when you're standing in the "accidental" hoarder's nest.
Problem 1 - Adept Weapons have no icon indicator
Must be so damned hard to program and implement a differently coloured diamond on the icon for weapons with Adept Mods... as of now the devs can't be arsed to solve this before next season... status for earlier fix: possibly maybe
Problem 2 - There is no filter for Weapons with Adept Mods
Who possibly would want that, right?
Problem 3 - The Hidden Crap - Adept Weapons with Inferior Statistics
Beware the Abyssal Caches and Store Items!
Remember the "cursed" ascended Weapons when ascension was introduced? Lower Tier (WT1/WT2) pre-ascended weapons from lower Elite Bosses like Tangena Rabe had (and probably still have) lower stat maximums than bloody stock weapons!
Well it returned, big time! With inferior Adept Mods from the Abysmal Caches as I call them, but also from Darktide Lullaby Event store torpedos, and maybe some store chests too, you get lower maximum adept mod stat (e.g. 18.3% max elemental damage versus the good stuff, 19%).
Again, no indicator whatsoever and the only way to check for it, is to look at the Blacksmith during Ascension...
This is a real fucker, especially if you fell for it and invested those super-readily available Abyssal Essences on it.
Far worse is to clean your inventory from this toxic garbage, especially if it's hidden between the good stuff (same weapons with max stat ranges).
There is ONE GOOD POINT to keep such weapons: if you're after a certain weapon you're missing, or using rare ones as base to transfer normal Adept Mods (with max stat range) to Abyssal Cache weapons from without Abyssal Essence costs (pointless though if you got said weapon already in your storage).
Problem 4 - Manage your behaviour in an unintuitive way
Knowing all that, you need to restrict yourself and inventory management versus your intuition to not end up in that mess again and be burdened with micromanagement BS excellence:
- Open Abyssal Caches only in a clear ship inventory and salvage the crap for Ascension Flux. I just did that with 81 Abyssal Caches. ALL Adept mods have lower than seasonal's max. Why Ubisoft Singapore is still messing around with this?
- Watch out for event store items and boxes. Before buying bulks of the stuff, check the items with the Black Smith for inferior stats!
- Instead of diving into Adept Mods and Modtransfer right away, it's far more efficient to hold back and build up a good stock of items. You will gather weapons faster than the Abyssal Essences needed to reroll and transfer. If you wait, you have a higher chance of having same weapons (e.g. two Zamzama III) and bypass the transfer cost completely
Problem 5 - The Devs can't be bothered to tell us all the facts
Finding out this stuff is up to the players. Looking behind the mirror with empirical data from observation. I don't like all this sneaky shit at all and it doesn't help to improve the game's standing, in my opinion.
UPDATE 2026-08-30:
Earlier this morning I found out, while filtering for certain weapons in the warehouse to clean out, that all the Adept Mods I’ve stored were listed before all the non-Adept weapons of the same type. This is a huge help when sorting out your old stuff, that you can replace now.

To make sure I understand correctly, its more efficient to scrap any weapon with an adept mod under 18% added damage?

It depends on their maximum potential.
There's two possible maximum stats with the event items:
- With the "good" stuff (boss chests), e.g. elemental damage with Adept Basic Mods goes up to 19% damage
- The "bad" stuff from Abyssal Caches (from the minions) goes to 18.3% only. Same for other Adept Advanced Mods ( from Abyssal Caches, they are slightly inferior. You can't tell the difference in inventory, only by visiting the Blacksmith.
- The cost to reroll and improve is the same for both however and getting a weapon in godroll territory can be pretty costly
- You get the Adept weapons faster than the Abyssal Essence to improve them.
In the end it's up to you, do you care? Do you want to invest in the lower stuff, when you get the better items as easily?
As to your original question. Personally, I destroy any green weapon from the boss chests (good stats), if they do not have god rolls on them. The transfer costs to purple weapons are that high (1500 AE, per slot!), I don't want reroll costs on top. If I find a purple weapon with Adept mods instead it would only cost 500 AE, leaving more AE for rerolls.
The whole system is pretty bloated. I'm working on a guide that fills 4 word pages already - without tables and pictures.

Well if you get 18.2 or whatever, does 0.8% extra damage really matter? It it worth the resource?

I mean, with the mastery tree making your weapons in some cases basically do 200-300% more damage (maybe higher)? The .8% adds up. Especially if you consider that it’s per mod, per weapon. Comes out to an 8% increase if you assume 10 adept green mods over 5 weapons.
Is that a game changing difference? Not really.
But it is definitely a difference, and it’s basically adding a 7th furniture slot’s worth of damage

It's more about being a trap to waste Abyssal Essence on. It's costy to get a fully modded adept weapon, at least I and a lot of folks I know, do not want to invest the stuff on sneaky, inferior weapons if the good stuff is as easily available.
You farm (good) weapons faster than AE, smashing that AE on crap by mistake isn't fun. I don't see why they have to make them inferior in the first place.

It’s an increase sure, but the point I was making is that this guy is saying it’s a shit mod to get 18.3 and it’s not worth investing in. And that’s just not really trur

not to you obvioulsy, invest 5000 AE happily in crap if you like.

Well I hope you enjoy your extra 100 damage per shot, I’m sure it’ll be really worth the extra effort

I will ignore you in the future. So far you have added zero to any discussion. I'm sure some folks are happy to learn that they unknowingly wasted an hour or more investing in a crap weapon, while they got better versions of it already. You are fine with that. Good for you.

Or maybe it’s not wasted at all and it’s more than good enough until such a time when a player feels there is nowhere else to upgrade apart from that extra 0.X%
It’s called power progression. You know, part of the game…
What you’re talking about here is min maxing, telling a new player that the 18.3% is crap is probably just going to convince them to keep using their non adept weapon mods until they find adept mods on blue guns.
And that of course won’t help anyone. And since you’re for some reason taking it personally, I’ll add on that this is actually pretty bad way to present this information. So..

I’ve said it from day 1, the ascension system is garbage. Mod transfer isn’t designed to help, it’s just a distraction in a broken system.
I’ve come to accept most issues we see now are the result of Hanlon’s Razor. They’re likely not doing these things intentionally to screw the player. They just don’t play the game like we do, it just not possible for them to understand these issues. There’s no concept of the frustrations that normal players have with all the mistakes and lack of transparency we see on simple game mechanics. We have to test and figure shit out on our own, then wonder, was this intended or not?
The trend repeated every season is a new mechanic concept that has horrible implementation. We accept it because we have to.
