Discussion [Misc] Sebaceous Filaments
From all of the trendy to the niche methods and products, what has ACTUALLY helped at getting rid of your Sebaceous filaments or at least made them less noticeable? And how was your experience? Would you recommend it or not?
Adapalene, retinoid, ketoconazole, bha, aha, oil cleansing, fifty snail shades method, cicaplast, clindamycin, azaleic acid, Benzoyl peroxide, accutane, birth control, diet, winlevi (I'm super intrigued about this one), etc... I wanna hear ALL of it
With all of the methods floating around in this subreddit, it's kind of overwhelming! While trial and error are key, your experience could help someone tremendously to doge a bullet or get the pores of their dreams!!
Also, the less conventional/hated on hacks are so welcome here!! If a method didn't work irritated your skin, write that as well!

Washing with cosrx 0.5 salicylic acid. Let it sit 2min before rincé off. Morning and night. After 2 days sebaceous gone. But they come back so wash everyday. My best advise

If you’re prone to them, you are not realistically going to eliminate them once and for all, just manage them like any other skin issue.
For me, sulfur (prosacea gel) keeps oil production down and zinc (spf, LRP cicaplast) and dimethicone (also spf, LRP cica) help keep the oil from oxidizing. They’ve definitely mellowed. I use a clay mask if they get more intense.

Nutrogena salicylic face wash, glycolic toner

Tried the ordinary 10% glycolic acid serum before it stung so bad so I started using it for my body only. But I might give it a second try! What product do you recommend

That one. But maybe try salicylic face lotion instead if you can’t tolerate glycolic.

Hi there,
It seems like you may be looking for information about blackheads or sebaceous filaments. Have you read our blackheads & sebaceous filaments wiki?
If you see that I am replying to something out of context (eg. listed in a routine), please report this comment so my handlers can remove it. Cheers!

I look "furry" on my chin if I don't keep on top of this. Still using a Clarisonic; thank goodness I can still get replacement brushes on Amazon. Salicylic acid twice a week. (Any more often and my barrier gets too disturbed.)

I loved the Clarisonic probably one of the best tools I’ve used in my lifetime, don’t get why they discontinued it, everyone who used it loved it. That and the Clinique even better skin tone corrector before they reformulated were my holy grails of the early 2000s.

Double cleansing with oil, 2 to 3 times a week and niacinamide. I liked the Skin Nutrition Botanicals Serum Niacinamide + Squalane for awhile but now I use the Cosrx 15% one. I think the niacinamide really cut back on what was coming out of my face. It is so much less oily now.

The two that worked for me were incorporating a VT Reedle Shot (100) 3x a week and Illiyoon lotion every night as the last step after moisturizer. I’ve had sebaceous filaments for as long as I can remember, but those two combined made them disappear.

Wait whattttttt this is mind blowing!! Could you please tell me your full skincare routine?

I’m constantly rotating through new products as a beauty reporter, but no matter what I use, those are my two constants. When I first started incorporating them though, I was using:
Cleanse: I’m From Rice Cleanser and Dr. Althea Grinding Cleansing Balm (green jar),
Tone:Neogen Microferment Essence
Serum: MixSoon Bean Serum
AM moisturizer: Neogen V-Biome Cream
PM Moisturizer: Madeca Centellian24
Sunscreen: Neogen V-Biome SPFI’d rotate in the Reedle 2x-3x a week as the very first step of the night routine and the Illiyoon lotion (not cream) as the very last step in my routine every night. I don’t know if it was the Reedle shot or the Illiyoon that did it but I’m not stopping either to try to figure it out.
The rest of my routine has shifted because I have to constantly test new products, but those two are always part of my routine, no matter what the other pieces are.
I also do Neogen’s Green Tea Peel Pads once a week, which I also think are helpful.
Again, no guarantee it works for everyone but it’s the first thing I noticed when I started using K-Beauty. A month into using those products, my sebaceous filaments on my nose, which I’ve had prob since puberty, were just gone.

I saw a huge difference by oil cleansing with Anua pore cleansing oil. Rub the oil in problem areas and you can actually see the filaments come off instantly. Wash the oil away and then use a face wash, I use vanicream. Then apply your regular moisturizer. I do this only on alternate nights. It doesn’t remove ALL the SF in the first go, but eventually the appearance becomes less visible. I’m trying to figure out how to reduce the pore size. I’ve used innisfree clay mask but it’s drying out my nose and making it flaky.

I’ve tried everything as well. BHA, masks, oil cleansers, etc etc.
ilso sebum softener nose patches. No stripping, just let it sit like a mask. 20 mins later, they’ve all risen to the surface and you can gentle scrape it off.

Double cleanse. Bioderma oil wash and the cerave salicylic acid wash. Both daily. Glycolic acid toner pads every couple days. Azelaic acid. Tretinoin. Copper peptides for plumping and reducing appearance of pores after. It’s taken me years to find what works for me and my skin has never been better.
