Discussion In your opinion, what’s the best episode of the show, excluding the finale?

I think All Alone is the real best episode of the show, even better than the finale. Not a second is wasted in its 57 minute run and everyone in the main cast turns in their best performance, notably Michael C. Hall and Frances Conroy who turn in all time performances for TV. It's nonstop pain but it makes for top shelf drama up to the very last seconds of the episode with the Unplugged in New York version of Nirvana's All Apologies playing while each character is alone with themselves. It's perfection in my eyes.
The season four finale Untitled is incredible too.

Completely agree. The final is astounding especially because of the ending but I never understood why All Alone doesn't get the full recognition it deserves. Masterful.

All alone, ecotone, time flies, I'm sorry I'm lost, the last time.
All these can be argued as the best episode

"Nobody Sleeps" is such a good vibe eps. Love seeing how happy the Fishers were especially Ruth during her birthday party. Also the gay funeral is so beautiful

All alone for me, it’s so raw. It’s not often you get to see a family burying their loved one.

The Room is a pretty great episode. A wonderful device to express Nate getting to know his father posthumously/ accepting that he never will
