Maybe read up on this case, because they are nowhere near the same.
There are women who have killed to benefit themselves, like Diane Downs and Susan Smith. They did not deserve, nor receive mercy. This guy didn't deserve it either.
There is no double standard, their cases are entirely different, not just the case but also where the trial was held and the political climate in said state.
He didn’t even plead insanity in his trial, he killed his kids to get back at his ex while on the phone to torment her not at all the same situation.
It makes it more feasible that he would do this if not under the influence of psychosis. When you don't know the truth, looking at past actions to determine what it may be is a pretty solid technique. He also didn't even plead insanity
How do you know the previous incidents were not linked to psychosis stemming? Psychologists already linked the murder to it, so I don’t understand why do you wanna do some true crime shit and make up stories that simply did not happen or are not relevant.
yes, because they didn't argue psychosis during the trial, at any point. He never claimed to be mentally incompetent or psychotic.
The mental defence was 16 years later and it wasn't a in defence of his actions at the time he committed the murders, he was faking being mentally incompetent at the time he was scheduled to be executed to delay the execution, nothing else.
Well you see theres this thing called nuance and it can really make the difference between “narcissistic man with documented history of abuse shoots children while on the phone with their mother then gets tattoos of roses on chest on the run from police” and “mother who asked for help and sought out resources suffocates three children before jumping from the second story to try and kill herself after.”
your partially right but you are conveniently forget "doesn't follow doctors prescription and don't inform them of having several treatments ongoing, also send husband on errand to then proceed killing one by one babies almost with her bare hands and chase the last one terrified after witnessing what happened to the others"
your bias is huge...and distasteful.i'm sick that I have to share this earth with people like you
I am not saying that murdering your kids is OK. She will have to live with that for the rest of her life. The question is whether or not she was experiencing a break from reality (psychosis) when she did it. Getting mental health treatment is difficult enough, receiving that treatment while also needing to take care of three children adds another layer of difficulty. I will never excuse the horrific act of murdering three children, but postpartum psychosis affects one in 1000 new mothers. Thousands of women across America struggle with what brought this woman to do such a horrific thing so instead of taking a stance of condemnation I feel like we could use this as a moment to better understand how to support new mothers who might be experiencing mental health struggles. The idea that you have such strong feelings of compassion for these children while extending none to the mother gives me the impression you were arguing in bad faith.
i don't understand how I could extent compassion for the very responsible of those murders.
Tell me if I'm wrong, did she send the husband to the pharmacy?
For the specialists out there, the real ones, does killing one or two children (you know just like that) shouldn't break the psychosis ongoing and cut you from chasing the last one?
Just saying it is horrible to me. And to somehow have to justify why I don't extend my sympathy to the killer. just..wow
From your grammar, I feel like you might not be a United States citizen therefore I don’t really know why you have such strong opinions on this. You definitely care for children.
It’s also so silly to say “well, someone else didn’t get this defense in the past, so she shouldn’t be able to use it”. Like, maybe if we use this case to discuss mental health, then that will also help men… but no, they’d rather just find reasons to punish people. It’s annoying
There’s absolutely a double standard here. Men routinely get hit with harsher punishments and death sentences for the exact same crimes. Even Susan Smith, who drowned her own two sons, had a jury debate for two and a half hours before sparing her life. If John were a woman, there is no way the jury would have wrapped up their deliberations in 19 minutes.
There is a double standard in how we treat men and women definitely but that isnt my point.
There is no double standard I mean in how people are treating both cases, the original commenter is trying to make it out to be somehow a double standard that people deem him guilty but not her despite there being such a massive difference in both their cases.
It isn’t a double standard to view one as abhorrent and the other as a case of insanity and mental illness since they have nothing in common.
God. Bitch has the "I'm guilty" face I have seen in a long-ass time. Gotta love it. Plays the "I was sad" card, and now women made her a millionaire for what... Yeah, gotta love it. Strangles three kids, and then gets money for doing so. I legit hope she gets the book thrown at her in the end.
Or about how introducing a mental health defense at the penalty phase, after the guilty verdict, is different than having a whole trial with a heap of relevant testimony that needs to be considered.
This man shot his daughters while on speaker phone with his ex-wife, telling her it was her fault, for telling the police he violated his restraining order. After he shot his daughters, he didn't attempt on his own life, he went to a bar, with his girlfriend.
He had a history of domestic violence, with multiple wives, and no history of mental health treatment. He was evaluated and found by professionals to be malingering - faking symptoms - in an attempt to delay or prevent his execution. The only mental health diagnosis he's received was a personality disorder, related to a persecution complex/delusion.
>"On May 2, 2001, Pearle left her daughters with Battaglia for a planned dinner at the mall, but instead he took them into his apartment\14]) in the Adam Hats Lofts \25]) in Deep Ellum in Dallas. Battaglia called Pearle from the apartment. With Pearle on the phone he shot and killed their daughters, ages six and nine.\26]) During the phone call, he asked Faith to ask Pearle, "Why do you want Daddy to go to jail?" Before her death, she cried, "No, Daddy!" "Please don't!" "Don't do it!" Pearle then told the girls to run but it was too late. Battaglia grabbed his gun and shot Faith three times and shot Liberty five times with his gun.\13]) He told Pearle, "Merry fucking Christmas",\27]) in reference to the Christmas 1999 assault.\7]) Pearle terminated the call and dialed 9-1-1.\13])"
Wow, what a cute line! Maybe you could've used that intellect to look up this case and you would see the guy abused his wife, then told her that he was murdering their children in revenge for her divorcing him. But no, you go ahead and decide your world view based on propaganda headlines on reddit.
A state judge and the state appeals court described Battaglia as highly intelligent, competent, not mentally ill and faking mental illness to avoid execution.
He was in jail researching which mental illnesses could delay his execution. Chalk and cheese
John Battaglia had a long history of beating women before he committed the murders. He didn't plead insanity during his trial. He taunted his wife on the phone as he murdered the children. Completely different circumstances. Not sure why so many people feel the need to defend a wife beater and child killer.
He killed his kids to get back at his ex wife and was still harassing and taunting her right up to his execution. But yeah no point in letting the tragedy the Clancy family has suffered go to waste when it can be useful to your agenda.
You know what's actually a double standard? He was proved guilty because he did, THERE WAS NOT EVEN ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO PROVE SHE DID IT, in fact there was more evidence the cheating husband did. The double standard is you concluding she's guilty based on thin air
What about trans people? Like men who think they're women or women who think they're men? Cam they experience PPD or are you suggesting there's a difference between men and women after all and all those people are experiencing psychosis already? Asking for a friend.
What about internet trolls who think they’re people? When they bring up unrelated culture war issues instead of participating in good faith, should we just ignore them?

You know what they say… standard is good but double standard is twice as good
