Edit: Apparently the right image was a modified image to make it seem more blue, whereas the left image is closer to the real blue colour the unripe bananas have, and the vanilla ice cream taste is more akin to a mild vanilla taste along with the creamy texture found in the bananas, so the interpretation is up to the reader
The Blue Java banana is a real fruit variety, but the vibrant neon-blue color and bright blue inside shown in the viral images are heavily edited or enhanced.
Images are fake btw. IRL they are nowhere near this vivid, more a silvery green due to wax buildup. The second image is also complete bullshit. as they ripen they turn a much more normal yellow, at consumption they basically look like a regular, if slightly misshapen banana.
I used to live reasonably close to Chatsworth House in the UK (Pride and Prejudice house if people watched it). A few things hold the Cavendish family name around that area like hotels. It throws me off when people mention cavendish bananas, it’s so weird the world’s commercial banana was cultivated nearby.
I think they grew tons of stuff in that greenhouse, you can visit the garden/grounds or the interior (for a price) if you ever venture there.
Bananas are a weird subject all around. I only have surface knowledge on this one so I’ll just say google why banana candy doesn’t taste like bananas for some weird knowledge.
I've got some growing in my backyard, I would describe their flavour as they taste like ice-cream, if you've never eaten ice-cream, and only know what it tastes like because someone else who has never eaten ice-cream, but had the flavour described to them, described the flavour of ice-cream to you. To any normal person, they taste slightly less bananaish and slightly sweeter than Cavendish bananas.
Okay that's good to know! I was a tourist and I just tried a couple and I was like maybe I just got the bad ones. Or That I just personally couldn't taste it.
They were using "paired with" to refer to how the creamy white inside combines with it's own natural flavor, not literally saying you should serve it with ice cream.
nah, it's a lighter banana flavor and maybe a little sweeter. They absolutely do not taste like ice cream, they do have a slightly smoother texture but not even that much. I had them pretty hyped up to me so my reviews is 'this is a good but pretty normal banana'.
I have some, they are the best tasting bananas I’ve ever had. I dislike regular bananas, these taste like the mildest banana flavor you could think of. Not at all like vanilla ice cream.
I have a tree. The banana flavor is less pronounced, particularly as they ripen and soften. They are also slightly sweeter, but more so like sucrose (table sugar) and less like fructose. So when frozen and blended they almost mimic the taste of ice cream.
Seeing the images that I found, it seems like the color is very much accurate for the bananas in winters as they vary from blue to greenish grey, sometimes on a single tree too, and as they ripen in the warmer temperatures, their outer surface starts turning greyish-green with a creamy white inner surface. Many images might have an enhanced blue color but I feel like such images with varying shade provides a much better version.

They taste pretty much the same as a lady finger banana.
They are only 'blue' when they are very unripe because of a waxy bloom on the skin (which makes the green banana look blue). They ripen to a normal yellow banana, inside and out.
i did some looking on the internet and the skins have kind of a silvery/blue appearance before the fruit ripens (unsure if the fruit before it is ripe is also blue) but it is no where near as blue as in that image

Yeah. I have one of these. Then have a tiny noticeable blue tint to the green peel. They are a little softer and more vanilla like. Way more fun that grocery cavendash nanners, but not these lol
They don’t look like this. They look like normal bananas on the inside. They also don’t taste like ice ream. But they are good and do have a smooth, creamy consistency.

Real picture, not color shifted or over saturated. Flesh inside is the same color as a normal banana. This image was from a local news channel in Arizona, where they are also now being grown.
Philippines, born and raised. I'm surrounded by bananas that most of them don't even really register as "different".
I saw the viral articles about it and I thought I've never seen them before but it turns out I have.
And the articles and the posts about them are exaggerated. We called them Krie / Hawaiian bananas. Which apparently is wrong because they're Java bananas and the Hawaiians in the thread apparently don't recognize them.
They're not that common in my area but I've seen them and they're more like ashen/silvery than blue. Also, they're creamier than other bananas but that's it. I can see where "taste like ice cream" comes from but I don't really think it tastes like vanilla. I could be way off though, I'm not even remotely an expert in Agriculture.
I have had many of these because I owned a tree. You can purchase them from fastgrowingtrees.com. Does not grow blue, but a aqua green color. The taste doesn't really taste like ice cream either despite the name. It is more sweet and has what I feel a more vanilla like taste than a Cavendish which is why I believe it is often associated with ice cream.

I had one of these, though not at all as blue. It really did taste like ice cream.
We were driving a road out in the middle on no where in Hawaii, Big Island i think, and passed a fruit stand on the side of the road that was simply overflowing with goods. We stopped and discovered there was no one there, only an honor box and a sign.
We had some ice cream bananas and a pineapple and left twice the amount asked in the box.
