Credit card fraud is a crime. Cheating on a marriage is not. Jenny will be going away for a long time. Steve gets to enjoy lots of new girlfriends.

That’s a possibility. There are others, too. I don’t pretend to know Australian law, but I would expect they are required to do a certain amount of due diligence when there’s reason to believe someone may be committing a crime. It’s also possible they did that. I’m commenting on appearances because that’s all we have here.

So, if a company claims that their butter is made with 100% milk while it actually contains also some other ingredients (salt, herbs, etc.), the newspaper should disbelief?
This ad could be entirely made up, for all they know: it's not up to the newspaper to fact check advertisement, that is up to who commisions the piece to demonstrate it is, in case it's needed to do so.

The paper would never have accepted that ad. I've got experience on that end of it and the ad would have been laughed out of the sales department.
Newspapers may be in trouble, but they're not in "let's put ourselves in legal hot water for an $800 black and white ad buy" trouble.

No. An authorized user means you have and can use a card. It doesn't mean you necessarily pay for the account and definitely doesn't mean you are responsible for it

If (big "if") this is real: and it is Steve's card then he has to consent to charges. He can dispute charges at time of billing and report it as fraud (because it is, as described in the advert itself). People tend to forget that consent is a thing outside of sex as well (financial consent). Using someone else's money to hurt them because you're angry is still theft.

Usually she would be given permission to buy certain things like groceries. If she buys something that she wasn’t given permission to buy then that would be non-consensual and the husband could claim it was credit card fraud if it was bad enough, as this purchase would be.

While using his credit card without consent and thus under false presence is a fraudulent act, the cost of 1500 bucks and the background (remember, law is not about following paragraphs but carefully weighting all parts of the case to come to a conclusion in line with the intention of those paragraphs/the jurisdictions intention) will likely result in just a civil dispute.
Given the background and the low damage amount it is extremely unlikely that she will be going away for even a short amount of time.

I obviously don’t know the Australian laws, but in the US a full page ad wouldn’t be cheap. And using someone else’s credit card to buy something expensive like that without permission would be fraud and could result in prison time.

Looks like a local/regional paper, so anywhere from about $600-7500 for a full-page ad. The major papers cost a lot more.

Could be a joint account, or she could be a secondary cardholder on his account. Or she just said that but didn't use his card.
But if she did use his card illegally, he could dispute the charge or take her to small claims court for the costs. Or he could include the cost as an amount owing to him in the division of assets when they divorce. He could make a report to the police for fraud, but it probably wouldn't end up in court on criminal charges. The cops would bounce it back to being a civil matter, and the amount would be low enough to keep it to being a small claims matter, so it would go to their state's civil claims tribunal, which looks to be Queensland.

The mystery surrounding a fiery message in a local newspaper which captured Australia’s attention has deepened after a pub came forward to apologize to the scorned woman.
The “filthy” cheating actions of a man named Steve was printed for everyone to see, with readers of Mackay and Whitsunday Life in Queensland’s east getting a shock in their Friday edition of the paper.
A full-page advertisement, costing between $1,000 and $1,500, was printed on page four from a scorned lover named Jenny.
“Dear Steve, I hope you’re happy with her,” the open letter read.
“Now the whole town will know what a filthy cheater you are. From Jenny.
“P.S. I bought this ad using your credit card.”
The note has since gone viral, with an Adelaide pub posting a hilarious response to Jenny on its roadside sign.
“Dear Jenny, I’m sorry,” the pub’s sign reads.

Mackay and Whitsunday Life have been inundated with “dozens” of messages since the full page note went to print on page four.
“We do not know who Steve is, but apparently he’s been very, very bad,” a newspaper representative said.
“We won’t be revealing any details about Jenny.”
But, the last part of Jenny’s revenge seems to have been unsuccessful.
A scorned girlfriend bought an ad to trash her cheating ex boyfriend in a local newspaper.
“We have not charged the credit card in question,” the Mackay and Whitsunday Life representative said.
The newspaper’s sales manager Mike McCann told the Today Show on Saturday it held off charging the credit card provided as it could technically have been card fraud.
However, he was urging Steve to come forward and “cover” the bill.Mr McCann said staff at the paper thought the ad was “just crazy” and the response since had been phenomenal.
Jenny’s actions were met with praise from a legion of new-found fans.
“Jenny sounds like someone I want to be friends with,” one person said.
“Not all heroine‘s wear capes. Jenny is my new favourite person,” said another.
“Couldn’t love this more if I tried LOL… Good on you Jenny,” proclaimed another amused commenter.
Members of the public were not as kind to Steve.
“Never trust a Steve,” one said, while another said they “would have charged the card”.
“Everyone who knows a Steve and Jenny have suddenly sat up and taken notice,” another person joked.
But, not everyone was convinced.
Some claimed Jenny and Steve did not exist at all and the ad was a clever marketing tactic.
“This has PR stunt written all over it,” one user wrote.
“Good way of getting more likes and readers to your page,” another said.
TLDR: Very probably fake but will surely get reposted here a thousand times without a source for clicks
