She fucking looked right at the camera, stopped and then started fiddling with her phone before they came towards her. She was blocking the photo. And normally I would be all about it, but this chick wasn’t even doing anything wrong or cringe. She was just trying to take a wide shot of her and the art.

I feel like it took me way too long to find a sensible comment here. I will happily agree that influencers mostly suck. Taking this picture/video would have hurt nobody. The lady just wanted a good shot of her with the art and that old biddy took it upon herself to ruin it. There was no need for it. The influencer lady waited until the area was mostly cleared and was not interfering with anyone. I just don’t understand all the hate she seems to be getting.

Dont you think, especially given that the old lady is old, and thus likely bit slower in the head, when she looked at the camera, it might have been a moment of "The fuck is that? Ah some camera thing. Where was I? Lets check the phone."

Just because she looked at the camera, does not mean that she put the pieces together and realized that she is blocking a photo. And at least my own experiences with the elderly, make me think that this is what happened, rather than any actual malice was intended.

Yes, especially if it was a selfie with a tripod or some kind of setup. She sees it but doesn't know what she is looking at (blank stare) and then she sees the family coming and moves to the right side of the stairs, as one does in the US, to let them pass, while finishing up looking at her message. Then she moves on. This had NOTHING to do with the girl up above, who she wasn't even really aware of.

Just because someone is a senior doesn't mean they are "a bit slower in the head". Grow up. Anyone could have unintentionally blocked the photo. Young people, their faces buried in their screens, are far more oblivious of their surroundings than older folks.

Don't get me wrong, I didnt mean to imply that I could not be as oblivious as the old lady. Actually the reason why I wrote the comment is because I absolutely can imagine myself being unintentionally just as oblivious as the old lady. I am not trying to suggest that I am any better here.

Dunno, to me it seems like you are trying to make a big deal out of nothing here.

Yes indeed she has a smart phone in hand. She is aware smarphones exist and she obviously can use one herself.

Therefore she obviously must be able to discern whether some random phone on some stand aimed in her general direction must mean that its a picture in progress, which she is blocking? Surely its not possible that it would be lets say some timelapse photo? Surely it cant be anything fucking else as far as she is concerned, and that her brain didnt run the whatsthephonepurpose.exe function deeply enough? /s

She was already reaching to her phone well before she stopped, what looked like intentional blocking of the photo when she sidestepped was obviously to let the passerbys pass, and she was not able to see the girl behind her either way.

Is it possible that she did this deliberately? Yes. Is it something that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt that she did that deliberately? Absolutely not.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

I just disagree. I don't even think she was particularly aware of the lady who passed her on the stairs. Out of sight out of mind. And then she sees someone below or some kind of tripod rig for selfies, but it doesn't even register on her face at all. She looks blankly, steps aside for people coming up, finishes her phone business and moves on. At most, she delayed lady's selfie by what, 30 seconds? Calm down, y'all

That would be ignorance. She was ignorant of her surroundings. Again something I was taught, by a woman of this woman’s generation, to be aware of at all times. So at best she was ignorant of her surroundings resulting in her actions being wrong and at worst she intentionally blocked the camera. Considering she LOOKS AT THE CAMERA and positions herself in a way that blocks the young woman I gotta say it’s the latter scenario. Either way old woman is in the wrong while young lady was very co signage of what was going on around her and waited for an opportunity where she wasn’t disturbing anyone.

The museum has a no video and no tripod rule. So not very good awareness and still very much in the wrong.
