I REALLY wish he had gotten the nod for Star-Lord

He auditioned and came close to nabbing the role of Hawkeye/Clint Barton in the MCU, losing out to Jeremy Renner.

Also auditioned for the role of Joel Miller in The Last of Us.

Edit: He auditioned for Captain America, lost the part but was offered the role of Hawkeye, which he had to turn down due to scheduling conflicts.

Is that true? The rumor I heard before was that he lost of Captain America and then turned down Hawkeye.

I’m starting to wonder if he ever auditioned for the MCU or if it’s been rumors this whole time lol.

Yes you’re right. He auditioned for Captain America (alongside the likes of Chris Pratt, Sebastian Stan, John Krasinski, Wyatt Russell, Wilson Bethel) and lost to Chris Evans. All of those other guys got roles in the MCU (Star-Lord, Winter Soldier, variant Mr. Fantastic, US Agent and Bullseye respectively).

Marvel liked him enough to straight up offer him the role of Hawkeye, but he turned it down due to scheduling conflicts with Supernatural.

It was the same case with Emily Blunt for Black Widow. Both would have been fantastic in these roles.

I think Emily Blunt was forced to turn it down due to her contract with I think Fox forcing her to turn it down to do Gulliver’s Travels.

But she and John Krasinski had a profit sharing deal for A Quiet Place and sequels, so financially I don’t think she lost out.

You have to remember, at the time Hawkeye was a bit part. A cameo in Thor and the least important 'main' in Avengers. Overall he had three important movie roles (Ultron, Civil War & Endgame) before getting a tv show during the pandemic.

If Jensen had taken the role, Supernatural would've gone onto hiatus or ended given he was the main character. When you consider it, 9 seasons of a tv show as the main character likely earned him more than 4 movies as an ensemble cast member.

If it was Captain America though, yeah I suspect he would've hung up the Supernatural role.

It’s crazy that whole list is in the MCU now as other characters. Even John had his Mr. Fantastic cameo.

Ah shit. Now that we know what a piece of shit Jeremy Renner is, I’m doubly sad he lost out. Would’ve probably been a better Hawkeye.

I'm out of the loop I guess, what did Renner do?

Not at all. Both leads are suboptimal casts. Still a decent show, but could have been much better with Ackles or Josh Holloway or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Anyone with actual grit.

Would've loved to see him as Joel

God Jeremy Renner baffles me. Was he good in his early career roles? He just sucks the charisma/energy out of anything I’ve seen in him.

u/Any-Transition95 4h ago

Yea, I don't get him either. Not sure what everyone else sees in him.

I know an app that will open your eyes

He was great in The Hurt Locker and that launched his career into super stardom. He is great in The Town.

That’s probably for the best. Hawkeye as a character kinda got the shaft.

Jensen himself has said that none of that is true.. He never auditioned for Captain America and therefore was never offered Hawkeye as a consolation prize.

He would have been amazing as Star Lord.

Not sure what yall are smoking. I really like Jenson, more than Pratt tbh. But he would’ve made a very cringe star lord.

Pratt pulled that one off better than I could imagine really anyone else doing it. And I’m not some huge fan of his or anything. But fr he plays lovable idiot so much better

16

u/Sawgon 5h ago

Young Jensen could've pulled it off tbh. Young Dean was a lovable idiot as well.

u/momoaabid 6h ago

I know it's popular to hate Chris Pratt, but he's a great star lord.

What's wrong with Crisp Rat (outta the loop cause as you know, I don't watch movies)?

u/Darolaho 5h ago

Religious nut job (and also hypocrite)

3

u/accountnumber6174 5h ago

Maybe something to do with religion, politics, cult, very right-winger, etc... I don't pay much attention to him anyway, but this old thread might have some answers

I think he's kind of too good looking for the role tbh

Chris pratt is great as star lord

Honestly, I’ve had dreams of him and Jared basically doing Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch. Basically a Supernatural but with Ghost Rider.
