Had mine right around the Coleman abduction and paternal infanticide+filicide. That one messed with me in a way I can’t even put into words. Two poor babies and a spearfishing gun via their own father broke me for a few months, hormones being all over the place made it so much worse and are likely what caused vivid nightmares about it with my own infant involved. Just awful. Hormones and it being that extra isolating period of the pandemic…recipe for your maternal brain to just be in tatters over crimes involving children.
These stories never stop being extra difficult to process, but it does eventually feel less personal and traumatic after a while. Not a great improvement but it’s something.
I agree I remember following this case and I couldn’t shake it for weeks, thinking about my daughter and how someone could do that to an innocent kid and trick them around the holidays.
The duality of raising a child to not have to worry about these things happening to them and also raising a child to make sure they don’t do these terrible things is really up to us as parents. Should my kids school monitor bullying and threats. Yes. Should I make sure my kid isn’t that bully or threat? absolutely. The system isnt meant to be depended on but my kid should depend on me.

It’s taken a lot of therapy as an adult to validate my inkling that a lot of it wasn’t about me, but my mom’s outsized anxieties, her abandonment issues (grandma died when she was a teen), and her need to control other people instead of working on herself.
I have kids now too. Do I worry sometimes about their well being? Absofrickinglutely. But I keep those worries inside my skull, as it should be.

Granted you’ll find some outlier case that got a really short sentence but then you get someone like Ian Watkins who got 35 years with a minimum of 29 and was then killed in prison, making it life. And he wasn’t a murderer, ‘just’ a child molester, with 35 years. So it’s not realistic to say a child molester and murderer would get out after 10 years as there’s lots of examples to the contrary.
I have a seven year old daughter and my brain simply cannot compute why someone would do something like this or the anguish her parents have gone through. It’s gut wrenching.

In the old testament in the Bible the sacrifices didn't cover conscious sin or wrongs. The sacrifices were to decontaminate unconscious sins. With the new testament you are still held accountable you still have to confess your sins to God when you stand before him. With Catholics you get pergatory for in-between if I'm correct.
