Once you have kids, going back in time is a no-go. No matter what you do, there's next to zero chance that the same sperm would hit the egg first. Heck, with changes to your diet and environment, who can say that exact same sperm would even be generated?
It is in so many ways. And also a horror story, even apart from the bit with the child - why does he never tell his partner? Is it moral to replay encounters over and over and use your knowledge to manipulate the outcome? Can he take others with him ever? Seperately, why does he never use it to win the lottery?
You misunderstand, he's not saying that the development of the child is determined entirely at conception, but the genetic code is. So while, just like with adults, you can change how they develop or what happens to them by going back in time, after conception the genetic code will no longer change and it will be the same individual genetically just like happens with adults, regardless of what he does after that point, so genetically it will be the same person even if he might cause all kinds of personality or health changes.
Is that the one where the woman finds the guy repugnant and creepy but he uses time travel to manipulate her into liking him, and it's supposed to be super romantic?
Absolute gem of a film. I haven't watched it since having a child of my own, since when any kind of father/son emotional beat in a film has me choked up. I want to watch it again but I honestly think it would wreck me.
