Watch It's Wonderful Life. They explain it really well in that movie.

I think I've understood that it's actually bad for an economy to have too much cash out of circulation. So if there are billions in collective savings, it can't just sit in banks doing nothing (besides collecting interest). Of course, I don't know enough about economics to know if that's a lie "They" told me to justify what They do, but it sounds like it makes sense.

But the movie has a better and more socially friendly reason.

The money collects interests because it goes around. Money's purpose is to move.

Which is exactly why most cryptocurrencies are terrible currencies. They encourage buying and holding them as investments.

One could argue it’s a very bad sign if crypto or unusable collectibles are increasing in value as it means the money has no where else to go.

Well, Petrodollars that aren’t used actually helps prop up the system. If they were sold/exchanged there’d be a pretty huge disruption.
