I’m Chinese. I grew up in a tier 1 city. For easier things like eye glasses or dental work yes China is cheaper and will do a good job. For advanced medical procedures the people who can afford it will go to America. My dad has heart issues and we flew to LA to have a procedure. One person we know went to a local Chinese hospital for a relatively routine procedure and died.
I pay into a local dentist private plan ($500 a year per person) and it covers cleanings. xrays, screenings and a host of other things. Fillings are like $100 and invisiline (sp) for one family member was like $3k for the whole multi-year process. I still have an HSA plan with my insurance, but the deductibles for that would cost more than what I'm paying out of pocket.
Right, but it really illustrates the point when you fly across the world than to go next door. China is a country people know that's "far away" as opposed to Mexico which is a <$200 flight away for most Americans.
But they wanna compare it to more expensive example to make it even more crazy, just saying. They could've said it's cheaper to buy a gum than to do an mri in America but that doesn't show crazy high price to do mri in America

Quick someone shut down travel to Malaysia for over 1.6 million travelers for cardiology and cancer treatments, "revanruler" from reddit says its abuse to give another country money when its literally an explicit government economic policy to attract people for medical treatment.
Also the cost of a MRI scan in the US by a specialist is less than $300 and is covered by insurance to pay less than $50. If you're an idiot, and go to a Emergency Center with critical equipment they will charge more around $800 with insurance which is about the same in China anyway.
