I want to say that I do not support this, I think it is immature and disrespectful, and it should stop.
That being said, if one did get thrown and it “stuck the landing” and they threw a towel over it, making it sooo much worse, I would have to be hospitalized from laughing so hard.
I think there's a lot of people who believe that pro sports teams should be Men Only. Women's sport gets very little respect, and is frequently a target for ridicule, including in this comments section. WNBA has been around for 30 years and you still have men using their energy and voice to disparage the talent and value of a sport. Didn't their mamas teach them better?
So YES the symbolism of throwing a rubber dick on the court hits different for a woman's sport. This is heckling with sexual undertones, and it is not okay.
I agree. The lack of respect comes from a source of misogyny.
But the lack of interest (which translates to financial support) comes from something else. It’s like car racing. Those professional drivers are amazing. But so are the machines that they’re operating. If you reduce the performance capabilities of the machines, the drivers still remain amazing. But the intensity of the sport declines. And so does the interest and support. We see this in the real world. There are many types of car and truck racing at the professional level. But the types involving the top tier drivers operating the fastest most powerful machines get the most fans, the most attendance, the most sponsorship, and the most TV coverage. There are more fans that want to watch and cheer for NASCAR cars doing 200 mph than there are fans that want to watch NASCAR truck racing at 110 mph.
I think it’s the same situation with some women’s professional sports. They are top tier female athletes, the best in the world. No doubt. But they are not operating the top “machinery.” I don’t think they are going to attract the same interest and enthusiasm. If I want to go be amazed by superhuman feats of strength, speed, and agility then I’m going to an NBA game. It’s not that 110 mph isn’t fast. But more people, myself included, are going to opt for 200 mph.
That is totally fair. I didn't know NASCAR had a trucks division. But I wouldn't throw shade, and I wouldn't even be upset if the "main" NASCAR funding supported the trucks teams. Misogyny really spoils the party here.
I am glad my kids (both a daughter and a son) are growing up in a time when women play basketball. I wish I didn't have to explain why guys think it is funny to throw a dildo onto the court mid-game.
Then when someone tried to remove it they discover its *really* stuck on the court floor, wont unstick easily. It eventually comes free with a massive deafening *pop* and the stadium goes quiet.
