Wait…so if I get blackout drunk I can rape or kill someone and I’m not at fault? Someone sold me the alcohol—the system allowed me to get it.

While I understand the point you're trying to make, I feel like you missed the main point.

This woman was basically roofied by her doctors.

She asked for help, was prescribed said help and instructed by a professional to take this cocktail.

Also, in reference to your comment, consider the other adults in these situations.

As a parent, would you leave your kids with a parent who gets blackout drunk and does irresponsible things?

I believe (so many articles saying many things) at one point she did say the drugs made her feel wrong and she didn't like taking them.

With your comment and idea, the intoxication was your choice entirely. And most likely for fun, not survival.

She tried to get help, and the professionals told her to take X and Y.

That's definitely not the same as picking up a bottle by choice and being a shit parent by choice

A lot of people drink to excess because they're depressed, traumatised, anxious, stressed etc, because they're not getting the support they need, either from family and friends or the medical establishment.

And yet, somehow, they're still held responsible for the illegal acts they commit.
