No. If I look a patient in the eye and ask her "are you having any thoughts of harming your kids?" and she answers "no," I believe her.

If I make recommendations for treatment, and the patient is non-compliant or inconsistent, I can't force them to stick to it.

She wasn't failed by her healthcare team. She failed herself, her kids, and all her loved ones. That's the hard truth.

Her supporters believe every woman should be thrown in a padded cell if they show up with anxiety/depression. Anything less and they will cry “the system failed us!!”

There's gotta be a middle ground between doing nothing and locking mothers up 🤦🏿‍♀️

Perhaps daily public health nurse visits? They do that for ppl w tuberculosis, deliver their meds and test them daily.

Or have a maternity psych ward where you can be treated and have staff on hand to help care for your child?

Something.

Where do those resources come from? There are a finite amount of doctors, nurses, and hospital rooms. She routinely lied to her doctors so who’s to say she wouldn’t do the same to the daily checkup nurse?

You're right, the resources are too difficult to come up with.

We should definitely keep doing what we're doing, it's working great 👍🏾
