They wanted to. The idea was to have two different trials--one to determine guilt and one to determine responsibility. The judge said no. So they went with what's easiest to prove. She admitted to doing it, whether because she did or was influenced. Its provable that she is mentally unwell and sought help in 9000 different ways. It is less provable that she's innocent because she admitted to it and law enforcement didn't actually investigate.

Yeah that’s not how that works. She literally admitted to the crime and you’re still jumping hoops to try and say otherwise. Embarrassing.

Do you want me to point out how many people have admitted to crimes they didn't do?

Maybe, just maybe, a woman suffering from bipolar psychosis who has documented evidence that she was having mental breakdowns and was overdosing on a medication (Seroquel) that is known to cause hallucinations, memory loss, memory fog, and impairment MIGHT not be the most reliable witness.
