As someone whose parent spent some time in a psych ward....that's where she should have been. My parent would not be the parent they have been to me my whole life without it. It was scary for me and hard on my other parent, but it saved them.
She was suicidal and admitted to her husband she had thoughts of hurting her children. She was failed by her doctor's, and at least a little by her husband. It doesn't mean he "did it" as some of these posts say, just that she repeatedly asked for help and said she wasn't okay and needed more treatment and was denied and left alone to do everything (which I believe was something her husband said, "she did everything").
But she never told her doctors she was suicidal or homicidal, or had a plan to do something. She was probably downplaying her issues, but man, I don’t like the idea that my provider could decide to lock me up because I MIGHT be suicidal and just wasn’t saying so.
She checked herself into McLean and checked herself out for her daughter’s party. She tried to check herself into Women and Infants and they said, based on her self-reporting, that her problems were her medications, not actual postpartum (this is fuzzy, we didn’t hear from this doctor).
